I have been playing wow for a month now using a 6600GT and havent had any issues until today.

I get horrible artifacts. I didnt make any system changes overclock or do anything. It all of the sudden starting make tons of junk all over.

My system is on a few month old system image. I have a pretty fast PC 3.2 PIV with 1gb of ram etc etc, I did notice my machine seemed to be slower and slower in WoW there would be parts that would stutter that didnt in the past.

I took the card out of the machine blew the case and fan on the card out with air and it didnt fix the problem. It does sort of seem like the card is overheating as the artifacts arent bad as soon as I turn the game on.

I dont understand what could have made the card all of the sudden have heat issues.

Also, I expect some people will suggest I RMA the card. It is a geforce 6600GT XFX card, i bought it from someone on the FS/FT forums. The XFX site says speak with the company you purchased it from. I think they used newegg, but am I out of luck for warranty?

Thanks so much!

Ya, XFX would be the problem. RMA it, test a few other games first though and maybe driver.

Try to talk XFX into replacing it without proof of purchase. For example, it can't be a year old and the warranty has to be at least one year. Or buy another XFX retail and swap it, the POS will be sent back to XFX.

OK, I made the same mistake: buying an XFX 6600GT (hey, it won the Silver Editors' Choice: http://www.anandtech.com/video...c.aspx?i=2295&p=20 ). I got graphics glitches all over the place from the moment I installed it and it's on its way back with an RMA. My problem now is: the graphical glitches (intermittent black dots in verical lines) still show up in some of my icons, and I can't get rid of them, even when I switch to another icon and then back again. The icon looks fine when it's shown in the "Change Icon" section of the "Properties" box for the icon, but when I hit "Apply" and go back to the desktop, the dots are still in the icons. What can I do to fix this? (And why is it happening in the first place?)

A friend of mine had a XFX Geforce 440 that overclocked to hell and back. Amazing card.

Never had a problem with XFX, they're always getting pretty good reviews. IE Kickass in Maximum PC.

Of course. I have suffered all too many times from the problems of low-budget motherboard manufacturers such as ECS, Tyan and FIC. I should have bought a Gainward . . .

GeForce 440s are just good chips to overclock in general. I stuck a fan on the heatsink of my Gainward 440 and I'm cranking on it right now.

Whatever . . .

Does anyone have a clue on how to repair my icons? Is there a separate file in which Windows 2000 stores icon images?
