Looking to upgrade my AGP video card. Debating between eVGA 6600GT ($159 @ Monarch) or eVGA 6800 ($183 @ Monarch).

Between the two, what do you guys think?

Thanks.... Anyone else's input?

Is there really a difference going from the Best of 6600 class versus the Worst of the 6800 class?

yes. 6600GT only has 8 pipes, the 6800 has 12. also, the 6800 can be unlocked for the full 16 pipes.

what about a X800XL ? better then the 6800 and the price should be about the same !

I heard somewhere I think here the unlockable pipes ratio on the 6800 is about 40% of them you can unlock.

Yes the x800xl is better than the 6800GT in MOST games, but the 6800GT is more future ready, supporting SMS 3.0 and all while x800xl only has SMS 2.0 and 1.0, this is noticable in games like F.E.A.R. But ya if he is attempting to play BF2 then an x800xl or a 6800GT will give him near equal performance, with the 6800GT giving him about 5-10 more fps. But, x800xl has better AA/AF. But I think he will be happier overall with the 6800GT.

for the record, the 6800 GT is faster than the X800 XL in most games. they're so close though except in games that were optimized for either one.

I think he's asking about the 6800 non GT.

plus the 6800GT is alot more money then the X800XL right now.

The x800xl is faster than the 6800GT in most games, but the x800xl gets easten up in OpenGL games like Doom 3 and Riddick, meh, right now I feel like selling my x800xl on ebay and buying a 6800GT because its overall stronger and better equipped for future games..or keep my x800xl and buy a 7800GTX and move my x800xl to my 2nd rig. I dunno, we'll see how much money I have by the end of summer and the prices of the cards :p.

for doom3 6800gt may beat x800xl

and without af some times maybe 6600gt may compete x800xl in doom3

6800 is sometimes smaller than 6600gt but when it is fac\ster it may evn e faster by abt 20% maybe more just check
cehck deux ex,painkiller for slower 6800 performnace

however with aa/af overall 6800 again might win
just onfirm

Kool... Thanks guys.

As far as playing BF2... is having only 128mb on an eVGA 6800 going to be an issue? As many have stated, I'm debating between the 6600GT and the 6800 (non-GT).

Unlocking the extra pipes... any NEWB tutorials as to how I can go about doing that?

6800 is the way to go especially if it has a chance of unlocking. do a google for "unlocking 6800" or something, you'll get a ton of matching results.

No, it won't be an issue, unless you want to pump up the aa/af. The 6800nu can't handle high resolutions and high aa/af, it's partly why I upgraded from one just recently.

Tutorials, well, google is one option, there is also a thread or two around this forum on it, just search for it, it should pop up asap. GL! I wasn't able to unlock my BFG 6800 without artifacts. :(
