6600GT or 6800?

they should cancel oif they are on 1024x768, but the higher it goes the more the 6800 would do better. if its pci-e, the 6600gt is the better option cause 6800 cost alot and cannot mod. 6800 is the better choice for agp because of its price and it can mod.

well i just bought an 6600gt AGP for like 177 and the 6800 is like 200 ... oops my mistake should i RMA it?

no, don't. i forgot to mention that you have a certain amount of chance to get a 6800 to fully unlock, or unlock at all, same goes to it's oc'ing capabilities.

They're pretty much the same unless you get to high resolutions or use high levels of AA\AF where a 6800 pretty much chokes anyways.

Also, the 6600GT has PureVideo, which is supposed to mean better DVD playback image(we will see when my 6600GT arrives).

what's the highest resolution your monitor can go?
if it's only up to 1024x768, i would think the 6600gt should be sufficent since at that resolution, the 6600gt and the 6800 roughly perform the same.

The 6800 is quite a bit faster than the 6600gt and should be able to handle high resolutions and AA/AF better. There is also a possibility (with the AGP ones at least) to softmod 4 more pipes and 2 (IIRC) VS units. With a slight overclock, that will get you a 6800gt with only 128MB memory. HJowever, if you play at lower resolutions (1280x1024 or less) then a 6600gt will be fine.

6600GT has better non-gaming features as well, like built-in HDTV support (most cards come with the component video breakout box), and the fully functional PureVideo support as was stated earlier in the thread.

If you just play games, that's one thing, but if you plan to migrate this card to another computer, like a HTPC, down the road; the 6600GT is the better buy.
