6600GT or 6800

Ok, so I finally got the money together for my video card upgrade. I have waited long enough, and I am tried of my MX4000 POS. Anyway, I can afford a 6600GT or a 6800 card (AGP) and I was wondering which one I should go with. My mind tells me 6800, but at the same time, I am wondering if the performance increase over the 6600GT is worth the extra $40 or so.
 
Well, what monitor do you have and what resolution do you game at? Generally I would just go ahead and recommend the 6800 over the 6600GT anyway though (unless you're severely monitor-limited).
 
The agp 6800 can often be unlocked to a 16-pipe card, which will make it close to a 6800gt, especially if you OC it also. Ofcourse there's no guarantee it will work, but I'd say it's worth a shot for $40. Anyway, if you do OC the 6800, it will be significantly faster, even if you can't unlock it.
 
I have a 17" monitor that I pray will be replaced in a year or so. I have had it a long time (screen burn has set in on one spot), but it does just fine for me right now.

I think I will go with the 6800 and open up those pipes. Reviewers on NewEgg are good about letting people know what cards that have that ability.
 
The BFG 6800OC seems to have a good track record for unlocking the 6th Vertex Shader and the extra 4 pipes. And as a bonus it comes out of the box with the core OCed 25M.
I am very happy with mine!!! 🙂
 
bfg is great mine came oced to to 375. but i oc it no further since i don't want to take the risk and i really don't need to. im perfectly fine now. but yes, the 6800 is better wit hsuperscalar gpu architectuer and 256 bit gpu.
 
ya go for teh 6800....u have the opportunity to unlock it to 16pipe card which would then pretty much slaughter the 6600GT.
