I liked the sound of EVGA's "step up program"... within 90 days, you can return your card, and pay the difference for an upgraded version. Then again... I DOUBT* that I would do that in only 3 months...

I was going to buy the EVGA 6600GT for only $178.75 here, but I called, and they are on back order.

Alternates:

Chaintech, only $189.99 at ZZF.. Pro: rated #1 in TechReport.com 6600GT roundup. Con: possible bad tech support...

Leadtek, $210.50 at Newegg.. Pro: Allegedly includes free Doom3, Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia (probably wouldn't touch PoP personally). Con: Slightly higher price.

EVGA (again), this time $199.99 at ZZF.. Pro: Stepup program*, good cust service. Con: No free games!

EVGA (another), $179 at GameEve.. Pro: Lower price! Con: *allegedly in stock on 1/15, who knows...*

Please help choose!

i got the leadtek that was like $11 cheaper at newegg, its the exact same card without doom 3.

Im very satisfied, it OCs well, has nice cooling, and leadtek has a good RMA system.

Have you considered the Leadtek Extreme 6600GT clocked at 550/1120 vs 500/1000? It's $214 at the Egg.

I looked at the 3 differend Leadtek 6600GT cards listed on the Egg. The one I linked looks most attractive to me for inclusion of free Doom3 and Splinter Cell. The extreme version is clocked slightly higher, but it seems that most cards can be OC'd to those levels fairly easily (and the extreme version does not list that it comes with Doom3... if it did, I'd get it since it's only $4 more).

NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS. NEVER BUY FROM GAMEVE.
Whenever possible, even if its a few extra bucks, buy from newegg. It's well worth it for their great customer support.

GAMEVE seems to be a mom and pop operation and have a terrible history. Just check resellerratings. Take special note of the "Overall Product replacement service" section on the bottom right.

I just got my Leadtek A6600gt in the mail yesterday....
NUMEROUS issues!

One, the DVI connector doesn't work with my DVI-D monitor for some reason (only if I use the DVI to analog connector and use an analog signal will it work).

Two, the Splinter Cell game that comes with it won't even work. It says the card doesn't support the minimal requirements (something about non power-of-two render target not available).

Three, Doom definitely didn't come with the card (although I had a feeling that was the case).

This card is frustrating me. I've e-mailed support@leadtek.com only to have me e-mail returned. And I've called their USA tech-support number twice now and left a message. I haven't heard a peep from them. This was my first Leadtek card, and if things don't start going better, it'll be me last!

Keysplayer, I would get it from Newegg, I just posted the link about what the guy said about drivers. Is any of this true?

Elias, where did you buy the game from?

I just RMAed my Leadtek 6600 agp, I tried 4 different driver sets with no luck. It would lock up every time. But this is just one mans story. And apparently what they say about newegg is true, I had no problem returning it. What I want to find is the Galaxy 6600gt card, good reviews and quiet. I think Im turning into one of those noise freaks.

Wow, driver issues with the Leadtek? This is the first I've heard of that. AT crowned them the 6600GT champion in their big roundup from 12/9/04, but I can't base my purchase on that alone...

That's the funny thing... I didn't buy the game! It CAME with the card! You'd think it would at least work.

I've also tried both the Leadtek drivers and the Nvidia drivers... I get the same results no matter what. I suppose I could just have a bad card, but everything else seems to work (Half-life 2, and UT2004 anyway).

NCIX.com has an eVGA 660GT for like $279 Cdn IIRC, that is lower than most places I've seen (its on special)

Oh, it was from Newegg. I'm really trying to figure out if I just have a bad card or not though at this point. Does anyone else out there have this card? Does the Splinter Cell game that came with it work for you? Does your DVI port work for you? Please let me know!

The only problems that have shown up with my Leadtek Winfast 6600GT are also related to the games it shipped with. Prince of Persia SOT crashes to the blue screen of death when I quit the game. Windows reports it as an NVIDIA driver problem. I haven't tried the DEP solution yet.Link

I also can't run the included Splinter Cell game for the same reason elias4444 stated.
It says the card doesn't support the minimal requirements (something about non power-of-two render target not available).

I haven't checked the DVI port yet.

I added Coolbits to my registry and did some tweaking last night and I plan to test it again tonight.

Otherwise it performs as expected.

I guess my question is in regards to Splinter Cell. Is the message about the non power-of-two render indicative of a hardware problem?

Aside: Thanks to Anandtech and this Forum. My first AMD build has exceeded my expectations and I credit it to my time spent here reading reviews and posts. Thank You!
