I posted a thread in the video section but it doesn't seem to be getting any responses.

I'm looking at a 6600GT AGP to replace my Ti4200 but I don't want a loud fan. Gigabyte has a fanless one that seems to be ok, except it is out of stock. I would rather get a good Zalman HSF or just heatsink.

Here is a link to the more comprehensive post I had in the video section. Thanks for any feedback.

yeah i'm pissed, i got the a 6600gt agp, and the fan on it is really really loud, i've been looking at ways to mod the card, becuase no one, and i mean no one builds after market coolers that work with it (that fit both the chip and agp bridge chip)

Maybe I'll have to go with the Gigabyte passive cooled one then, I do have a 120mm fan that blows right on the AGP slot so it should work fine. I would have prefered the Zalman though.

I have both those coolers, but I was scared to put the ZM80A-HP on my Chaintech 6600GT so I put on a VF700AlCu that I had laying around. So far, the VF700 is working fine.

The Sonata however, is a good setup for the ZM80A-HP because the 120mm fan is right behind the HDD chassis. It allows for that fan to blow over the heatpipe.

Does what fit? The VF700 on the 6600GT?

Oops, I skipped over the AGP part on your other post. Mine is a PCI-E version.

i used the vf700 on my 6600gt agp. it was a pita but it worked well.

for me i had it in an htpc case so it was even more problematic. after bending the fins about to get it to fir, then i had to trim and bend a few of the ram sinks fins so they would fit underneath the gpu cooler.

like i said, a pita, but the temps were great when done.

Actually I am most interested if the Zalman ZM80D-HP would fit the standard 6600GT AGP card. From the previous posts as well as some other posts I have read it looks like the VF700-AlCu might not be the best idea.

Frontier PC does have the Gigabyte in stock, and about $30 cheaper than NCIX. Thanks for the heads up.

maybe, but i would say no. the problem is with the agp, the core is moved so much closer to the edge of the card, away from the agp slot. thats why the vf700 needs x amount of clearance to fit in a case, i think 1.25" , or you bend the fins like i did. because it actually hangs off the edge of the card.

i guess the best thing is to email zalman. i couldn't find actual measurements on their site.

I couldn't even find an email address on their site.

I ordered the Gigabyte one, big premium for what looks like a pretty small passive heatsink, but I think with my Sonata fan blowing right on the AGP card it should do just fine. Bonus is I don't void my warranty on a brand new card.

Thanks for the replies.
