6600GT Broken?

Nah, I don't play games on this system. It goes in one of my HTPC machines, which only plays videos out to my TV. I been playing videos on it for about 1-2 hours straight; no odd signs yet.

That's not a transistor, it's a capacitor. You can see from the C91 and the positive terminal. I once broke one of my video card and resoldered it back and it's been running for over 3 years now. One of my co-workers explained that it's not that important on a video card, it's mainly used to hold a charge so the chip has constant power.

If you arn't using the card for any gaming or other 3D stuff that pushs the GPU to its limits & requires maximum voltage theres a chance you'll be fine, but after looking at your pic again I think nod218 is correct about it being an easy solder-job if you want to try a repair yourself.

Since you don't run any games that would require a lot of constant power input it will work fine without it; but if any squealing, loss of video, etc starts happening, that means you probably need it.

A friend of mine did that to his Voodoo 3 BITD, but I soldered it back on and it worked fine.

Thanks for all the replies!

I don't know how to solder, so I guess I'll leave it at that for now. Once again, thanks for the help!
