6600GT + AS5 = 5c Drop

Finally got around to removing the HSF and replacing the awful, hard to remove thermal adheasive with AS5. It gave me a 5c drop (85 down to 80).

To keep things fair I dusted first then tested the control temp.

wow, i'll use some on my 7900gt when it comes. I think it comes with low quality grease (not tape) so the difference shouldn't be as big.

Yeah, this stuff was HARD to get off the core, espically with all the little capacitors around it. Came off the HSF easy using the old freeze/credit card trick.

I did the same to my 6800GT, except with AS3, and it did wonders for the temps too 🙂

My improvement was even more amazing (probably because the stock thermal stuff was crap after a year and a half)...went from 105C to 90C max at load 🙂

(It would be lower but it's like 2mm away from a PCI card, plus it's running at Ultra speeds...I don't get anymore crashes or artifacts, which was the main thing I wanted 😛)

I'm quite sure the 7900gt core will use some sort of good quality silver based paste.
