A friend of mine wants bf2 and it wondering how a 6600GT would handle it compared to a regular 6600, any ideas?

i think it would be much better than a 6600 you can definatly run it. My brother has a 6800 and he can run bf2 on 1680x1024 and with the settings on medium and he has no problems. The 6600 GT really isnt that far behind, maybe 1280x1024 w/high settings would play pretty good.

6600gt would be the minimum. i have a 6600gt overclocked and can play at 1024 at medium settings.

he's comparing the 6600gt and 6600, not 6800.

It really does depend on the whole system, not just the video card.

I can play 1280x1024 with all medium settings with no hang ups or problems whatsoever. I havent even tried to push it to the limits.

I would push it past 1280x1024, but thats the maximum my monitor supports.

BF2 runs fine on my 6600GT at 1024x768 as long as I choose medium texture quality, everything else can be set on high without hurting performance too badly.

Edit: My system is as follows

Athlon64 3200+ Winchester (2.45ghz)
1Gig Patriot memory (2-3-2-5 1T @ 223mhz)
60 gb 7200 rpm HD
XFX 6600GT (550/1100)

I used to be able to run Halo on a 768 MHZ pentium 3 with 64 MB of ram and a old Geforce 2.

It sure wasnt fun. I could buy an Xbox and get better performance.

If you're friend want to play BF2 he's definitely going to need more RAM before anything else. Some people think otherwise but I consider 1gig to be the MINIMUM for BF2.

there aren't really any celeron gaming benchmarks. they are usually amd64 and p4. a 2.53ghz celeron is about a 2.0ghz p4? the game should run fine with those parts.

Um....I wouldn't recommend it. But, if he can get his hands on a friends copy to test out before he buys, that would be a good thing. No returns on any computer software. The 512mb of ram is definitely going to hold him back, even more so since he has a celeron. If he hasn't played the game before, the maps are FN big. Lots of people, vehicles, buildings and misc (trees). Hella textures and pretty memory intensive game. It's going to bring his comp to it's knees.

You said that 512mb ram would be a stretch, you're right, when I had a gig of ram it even struggled with that, granted it was maxed out though.
