i don't understand how the 7300 can be so cheap.

Not worth it, at least get a 7800/7900/X1900/X1950 series. Should be doable for $100ish or a shade more if you look really hard. You're not going to boost up from your 6600gt without spending at least $50-$60 for something.

I'd be money that the 7300GT is alot slower than your current card.

The 6600GT and the 7300GT are both 8-pipeline cards. The 6600GT has a core clock of 500MHz and a memory clock of 1000MHz. That particular model of 7300GT is a GDDR2 model, which means slow memory clock (definitely <1000MHz) and probably slow core clock as well (350MHz?).

GDDR3 versions of the 7300GT can have core clocks of 500MHz and memory clocks of 1400MHz, but even those will not be a major improvement over your 6600GT.

As Arkagin has pointed out, the 7300 is a step backwards from the 6600GT. In your case I would probably go with a 8600 GT or one of the cards Arkagin has previously pointed out simply because the performance of all these cards are a substantial upgrade over your current one. Even a 7600 GT is a substantial upgrade if you can find one for around $60 - $75.

The 7300 GT will be generally slower than your 6600 GT which the review HERE confirms! 😉

the 7300gt is a budget card from the last generation. If you want an upgrade, get at least a 7600gt, that's about 2x as powerful as your 6600gt. If you're getting something even faster like a 7900 series or a x1900 series card, make sure you have a relatively fast C2D or a A64 cpu, otherwise you will not see the whole potential of those cards.
