So it seems that 6600GT AGP is the new "value" card

I'd like to hear more real life reviews/results from average users still stuck with their Barton 2500+ or T-bred 1700+.

Any take?

All reviews I read for some reason always use the latest FX CPU for their testings (which makes no sense, paying big bucks for the system and use a value 6600GT GPU)

You're not going to find anyone with "experience" using a 6600 GT AGP, as it is not yet out...

I don't know what kind of increases you'll see, but I can definately see the CPU being a bottleneck when using this card.

I think someone needs to start up a review site that just tests different cpu's paired with different video cards, and with different amounts of ram. It would be alot of work, but if you didn't review anything else, ie. no motherboards, sounds cards, etc., I think it could be done. Anyway to answer your question I have not seen any reviews using a slower cpu with the 6600GT. I guess you could look at old 9700/9800 reviews that used then top of the line 2500+ cpu's and add 10fps. That should get you pretty close, but it will not be based on newer games like Doom3 or HL2.

Ive been wondering how a 6600gt compares to a 6800nu on an AXP system. They are relatively close on an A64 system, unless AA is used. Id imagine the gap between them would be smaller with an AXP system.

I do remember seeing a 6600gt being benchmarked on a 3200 or something like that vs a 6800le and an x800se and it beats them by a relatively noticeable margain. Its from one of the first 6600gt agp benchmarks, maybe a week ago.

Here they tested the 6600GT, 9800Pro, and FX5900XT in many good benchmarks. This was EXACTLY what I was looking for since I own an FX5900XT & run a 2.4b P4. I've pretty well decided that the 6600GT is the one I'll get since I don't run above 1280x1024.

IMO, a $250 6800 is a better buy than a $230-250 6600GT, at least if power draw or perhaps WMV acceleration isn't a consideration. The 6800 should offer better framerates than the relatively bandwidth-limited 6600GT with AA in particular.

Newegg is selling an XFX GF6600 GT AGP right now, went on sale almost the day of Nvidia's official launch too. So its very possible someone could own one.

The down side is that its selling for 245 dollars, and its possible to find a 6800nu for not too much more money.

The Price at newegg.com has been droped to 225$ for the XFX 6600GT AGP version. I can't wait to see what all the other company cards of the 6600GT will look and preform such as evga, msi, pny.ect.

Also, with a 6800 you have the possibility of unlocking more pipes. Further, if you are into overclocking, you will need to get 3mhz on the 6600 architecture for every 2 that you squeeze out of your 6800. So, I got 75mhz out of mine, meaning that you would have to overclock your 6600GT 112.5 to get the same increase in fillrate. I doubt that will be generally possible, but 75mhz is fairly common on 6800's it seems.
