6600GT AGP vs PCIe

Can anyone explain to me why this article shows the AGP version of the 6600GT kicking the PCIe butt?
I was under the impression they should be the same. I am looking to upgrade my entire PC, and was trying to decide what to do. Having a 9800Pro I was leaning the s754 route and my card for a couple years, but was afraid I would not be able to find a good AGP card ay 2 years down the road(used I suppose wouldnt be a problem)
So basically a guy here at work needs a card for his AGP system, and is willing to buy it off me for what I can buy a 6600GT PCIe for. He is still saving 95 when you factor in the taxes he is not paying 😉

This article really made me wonder....am I downgrading with a PCI??? It is a pretty significant drop!!

OK, I think I may have answered my question!! The test bed for the PCIe is an Intel system...guess that says dont buy one of those eh!! 🙂

Phew, I can relax a bit again!!

But on another note, it looks like I am downgrading from a 9800Pro to a 6600GT for HL2 and CS:S. So many reviews, so much to think about!!

I have seen other sites showing the 6600GT beat the 9800Pro by a decent margin.

So damn confusing!!

ATI generally does better at HL2 than nVidia cards. My buddy bought a 6600GT and put it into a new 3.4 GHz (64-bit) Intel system. He's been playing HL2 with all settings turned to highest levels at 1600x1200 with no issues whatsoever. He does NOT have AA/AF enabled, so if you must play HL2 with either at a resolution higher than 1024x768 you may want to consider another card (with 256 MB memory on board).

AnandTech has reviewed PCI Express and AGP cards together in as identical systems as possible and found that PCI Express (at today's programming) only has approximately 3% speed advantage.

Your chipset on the motherboard and video card are going to definately come into play.

Hope this helps!

Some brands of 6600GT AGP come with the ram@only 900mhz instead of 1000.
