Basically im going to do a little system upgrading, but im wondering if it will eventually be worth it in the end.

My current specs are 2.8C, Intel d865perl, 6600GT AGP, 1.5gig 3200.
Im going to upgrade to 3.0 2mb l2 cache, asus mobo, 6600GT PCI, and 1.5gig 3200.

is this a completley retarded thing to do? Will there be any performance increase graphically between the AGP and PCI express. Or is there a different graphics card for ~200 dollars that i should look at instead?

or should i just keep my agp motherboard and 2.8 and spend my money on a 6800GT AGP?

thanks!

Sounds like you're upgrading to PCI-E just because.
Unless you're getting a great deal, I would just get a 6800GT AGP.
BTW : Ya need to update your sig :)

You will be hard pressed to see any performance boost at all. You will have to run benches to see it, and even then the difference will be small.

clock for clock you'll see no difference between a AGP and PCI-E 6600gt.

There is no reason to go PCI-E just for the sake of PCI-E.

And that upgrade is a waste of money IMO. If you're going Intel, upgrade right by moving to the latest chipset & DDR2. I'm not as knowledgeable about Intel, but I do know that only upgrading half @$$ed isn't worth it.

If you want a real upgrade, sell your rig, buy an A64 Venice 3000+/3200+, OC the crap out of it, and get a 6600GT or other inexpensive PCI-E card now. You can move to a GOOD dual core processor, you can keep your DDR RAM, and you will get better performance in games from the CPU alone. If you want to stick with Intel, either keep your setup now & get a faster CPU/more RAM/better video card, or do it right like I suggested above.
