I recently installed a 6600GT AGP card from a friend of mine in working condition but it won't play video or certain games in my machine. I have a AMD 64 3000+ in an ASROCK Dual SATA II mb with 1GB of RAM and a 400W Antec PS.

I had a ATI 9600 Pro card that worked fine but slow in some games that I removed prior to installing the new card. I removed the drivers by using the Remove Programs feature in windows, the manual delete from ATI and Drive Cleaner Pro in safe mode.

I've tried Nvidia drivers 77.72, 66.93 and the 8*.** (can't remember) with no luck.

The games that work are Age of Empires III and Return to Castle Wolfenstien.

The Call of Duty 2 demo will load but I only get 1 FPS. The same goes for Doom3 and Half Life 2. Internet video doesn't play either from like CNN or Fox News.

I checked my DirectX and I have 9.0C and I also have the Molex connector plugged into the card.

Thanks for any help

This response is me admitting that I have NO idea what could be wrong, and so, I am recommending a place where you may get more responses: have you tried the Video forum? You MIGHT get more help there... Although it IS a weird problem you have there! Good luck!

Go in the bios and set it manually to 4x AGP, virtually no performance hit and could well solve the issue.

Is fastwrite on or off?

That said, there something to be said for playing FPS's with PowerPoint like quality. >.>
