6600GT AGP or.....?

So 1024x768 with no AA and 2x AF on my 9600 Pro is getting about 40-50fps, not too shabby.

However, the 6600GT will be in stock over here in the UK within a week or so for £150 (that's a pretty good price, IMHO).

Any alternatives? ATI have sort-of shot themselves in the foot in my book; the X700 is PCI-E only 🙁

Cheers!

Any alternatives? Maybe.
Asus V9999GT
3rd card down.
The only step between a 6600GT and 6800GT is a 6800NU, which is £210 anyway. A fully fledged GT is £300 or so, which is a lot more.
The 6600GT in a lot of cases is comparable to the 6800NU, so the NU may not be worth it, unless you are willing to try and softmod it, which may be possible.

Ooooooh.
Erm, that's a seriously tempting price. Damn you, Lonyo 😉

I'll be buying after Christmas (and after I get my car MOT'd, sigh), so that might drop a few quid in that time, but that's an excellent option.

Cheers!

I'd get a full blown 6800 GT when the prices drop a little more, unless your happy playing all your games at 1024x768. In which case, that ASUS card would be fine. End of the day, you'll find you could easily use your 6800 GT for at least another 2 years.

I have been wondering about it too. The video encoder/decoder works better than the 6800 according to some disclosure from nVidia (see the 6800 Video Processor thread in Video started by Dapunisher.) It is not too shabby and is better than the last generation. Tom's did an article on it today. It sounds like a good deal.

If you specifically have 200 US$ and will spend only in this range (plus or minus 25$) then your choices are 9800pro and the 6600GT. You are correct in saying the nVidea soln is now faster than the ATI solution. So... Get the nVidea soln.

Geez I just noticed that 6600GT AGP boards are like $100 more then their PCI-e counterparts here in Canada. WTF is with that? I find it hard to believe that the bridge chip and exgtra traces cost them more then a few dollars extra to add. I hope that it's just artificially inflated for release time.

6600GT is a good card, will be more future proof than buying a 9800 Pro

but I can tell you, my 9800 pro runs HL2 just fine 🙂

I just wanted to say I'm very happy to hear that it runs ok with a 9600 pro. Thats what I have but I don't have the game yet. Thanks for the info, you made my day 😀

That's supply and demand. I'd look to the 6600GT to stay above $200US until ATI finally gets its x700 ported to AGP sometime in Q1 '05. Major snafu by ATI. I'm sure Nvidia profits will be up in Q4.

That's about it so far. Though they dropped if to $310 from $337 after having it listed for 3 days.

i'll wait for the price to drop down on the 6600GT agp version. Does anyone think that by the end of christmas, or beginning of January i will be in a better position to invest in this graphic card? I'm a strapped on cash, but not so much actually. I'll just wait i guess.
