6600GT AGP: alternative aftermarket cooler

If you have a 6600GT AGP card with a loud fan and are looking at quiet aftermarket coolers, I found something you may want to consider. Based on several threads here on this forum, I was about to lay out roughly $36 shipped for a Zalman VF700 (Newegg link) or $40+ for the all copper version. But I decided to see if there were any less expensive alternatives out there and I found one on another forum. I bought this Jetart JACSH1 (also sold under the Logisys name) instead based on several factors.

First, the Jetart is about as quiet as the Zalman. According to Newegg's page, the Zalman is 28.5dba at full speed - the Jetart runs at 30 dba. I can tell you that it's quiet - I cannot hear it over my case fans.

Second, the Jetart is all copper. And it's cheaper than the aluminum/copper version of the Zalman.

Third, I can use the ramsinks that came with the Jetart - there's plenty of room under the cooler. From what I've read about the Zalman, the ramsinks will not fit under the heatsink.

Fourth and last, I paid about $26 shipped for the Jetart. That's about $10 cheaper than the aluminum/copper version of the Zalman (and about $15 cheaper than the all copper version).

Also, I should mention that the fan on the Jetart has blue LED lighting. I know some people like LED lights and some don't - I like them so it's a plus to me. But I would have bought it regardless of the lights.

So, how does it perform? Well, first of all you should know that I have a XFX 6600GT AGP with the "new" fan (the silver one that's supposed to be quieter and more efficient than the original). With the stock fan my card "idled" at around 55C and peaked at about 67C under full load. With the new cooler my card idles at 50C and under load the highest reading I saw was 55C - a big improvement and it should be better after the Artic Silver sinks in.

By the way, installation was quick and easy. Also, I should mention that I usually buy from Newegg and Zipzoomfly, but I tried Sidewinder Computers for the first time and they were great. They only charged actual shipping.

Bottom line is if you have a 6600GT with a loud fan and are looking for more choices in coolers, this one is worth considering.

I would just slap a bigger fan on the stock heatsink if you want better, more quiet cooling.

Well, you have a point there. I once saw a dude strap a 20" box fan to the side of his case. At low speed I guess you could call that quiet cooling. Sort of a brute force cooling deal. Anyway, I like the cooler I bought - very nice and way quieter than the factory cooler it replaced!

While it probably is better than stock, I had a choice between the two recently, and I bought the Zalman. I know it looks huge on a videocard, but it has a 80mm fan, and it's pretty quiet. I have it set at high speed, and I can't hear it over the rest of my fans. Also, when you set it at low speed, the thing is even quieter, but since I oc'd my card, I set it on high just to get the best cooling.

As a side note, I accidentally broke 1 fan blade on the cooler, and they sent me a replacement fan for free. I thought it was pretty nice of them, I'd buy their stuff again.

WHOA....with my 6600gt from leadtek (agp) i get around 41 idle....and at peak, i saw 72 with 3dmark03, but it went away freakin quick (i think it shot up after running it) to about 65 i think

either way, nice job, good way to save money 😉
