G'day all. I'm new here.

Just wondering..

My FX5700 card went silly. Basically I knocked my computer off the desk. Something must of happened to the fan and/or heatsink.. After a while of having it on, something must of melted/damaged, including the fan/heatsink itself. The fan was bent out of shape and making a very large sound... It was either knocking against the heatsink or wouldn't go at all because it was caught. So now when I run any 3D games it crashes the computer completely. About 10 seconds in to playing (it doesn't appear to do it in the menus), the screen gets all databits on it and it crashes the comp.. You need to manually restart the computer by the switch. I'm surprised the card is even working on 2D enviroments like now.

Anyway.. I have a lan in 1 week so I need to get a graphics card beforehand.

Basically, I can get these 2 graphics cards for the same price.. I just need to know which one to get. I'm after framerate more than anything. I'll be playing games such as Battlefield 2, etc.

Nvidia XpertVision GF 6600GT 256MB 128bit DDR3 AGP 8X DVI TV-out HDTV support

-or-

ATI Sapphire Radeon X800 SE 256MB GDDR3 V/D/VO AGP8X.

Cheers.

If I'm not mistaken, the agp versions of the X800 can open their disabled pipes. Since the LE has all 16 pipes with just 8 enabled you may have more "potential" with it. But as-is I think the 6600GT is a hair better. IMHO.............

These are the two cheapest I can get for now.. Both $249.00 at the cheapest places I can find.

Seems like most people think the 6600gt. So I should buy that?

$249 is the cheapest I can get a 6600gt/X800se brand new in Australia at the moment.

Not cheap indeed.

If you can get a better performing card than that for as cheap.. Feel free to share :)

Get the 6800 or 6800 LE, they are unlockable and once unlocked would be better.

6800 LE should actually be cheaper.

Jacobjac If you live in the Sydney Area ARC Computers sell geforce 6600GT AGP cards for $230 and 6600GT PCI-E Cards for $200

Or you can get a 6600 Standard Card for $160 and overclock the core to 500Mhz + and sill get great performance
