6600GT 256MB nVidia's response to X800XL 256MB??

I googled 6600GT 256MB and here's what I found:

PCI-E Version

AGP Version

The PCI-E version got a 3DMark03 score of 14478 and a 3DMark05 score of 6243 which are kick ass scores!! Neither card is available in the USA yet; Nvidia has to counter ATI with it's coming January 05 release of the X800XL 256MB DDR3 16 pipes with a MSRP list price of $299 and I expect it will be the 6600GT 256MB what do you members think???

ok, but it is not 6600GT but Dual 6600GT, which is EXPENSIVE CARD

it is not really what Nvidia supports, you haven`t read the whole article, it is card with 2 6600gt chips on board and 256bit memory bandwith, then there is no wonder that it is performing like monster.
In fact there is no normal 6600GT 256mb 256bit with 2processors made by another manufacterer then Gigabyte and XFX, this card will hurt any budget badly ;-) , it will be more expensive that 6800Gt, and here is no point to buy it for that money

and if there will be more manufacturers, for that price it will be no match for X800XL 256mb 256bit 16pipelines bargain card 🙂 in price VS performance point.

I think u read it wrong barnacle, this card the 6600GT is like what Mk1980 said its a dual GPU on one card, with the SLI bridge on the card. There have been reviews out now for it, and in every benchmark it didnt beat the 6800GT, and only on the lowest res without AA and AF did it come close.

And anyway, the only one i heard of is the Gigabyte, and the XFX is new, go look at the Firing Squads review of the card, and see the real world benchies of it, and ull see.

Its still cheaper to buy a 6800GT and mb and still have the upgrade option.

Umm, isn't his link to the AGP version a single 6600GT with 256MB 1000MHz DDR?

What would make anyone think an 8-pipe, 500MHz, 128-bit 6600GT would outscore a 16-pipe, 400MHz, 256-bit X800XL, though? Doubling its memory won't help at all except in cases where it's a constraint, and by then the 6600GT isn't exactly blazing new framerate trails.

No, nV can counter the X800XL with a cheaper ($350) 6800GT or a cheaper and faster (450MHz, 128MB, $250) 6800. Or maybe just a 450MHz, 256MB 6800 for $300. Or maybe they don't need to do anything at all, if the X800XL is as "widely available" as ATi's X800XTPE or X700XT. 😛

Anyway, that Gigabyte SLi-on-a-card doesn't offer 256MB to the application, but probably closer to 128MB (like the V2 SLI's, V5's, and Rage Fury MAXX, the RAM is basically split between the two cores).

Is it? i gathered when it said Dual, it meand 2 GPUs... dunno...

Not dual GPU's. Its a DUAL DVI video ports.

His link is for a XFX 6600GT, 256 ram, 1 GPU. Cant actually read the review though, its in a kanji of a language I cant read.

BOO-URNS you can only use the gigabyte dual gpu 6600gt's with their mobo and only comes in a $550 bundle with their sli mobo. cant buy it separately WAMPERZ

Link to an article where it didn't beat the 6800GT at a res at/below UXGA, no AA/AF? On every benchmark I've seen, two 6600GTs in SLI beat the 6800GT with those settings, and I don't even recall seeing a benchie where they didn't beat the Ultra. It would be dorky indeed of Gigabyte to charge $550 for the card (about a $200 premium), and force you into buying one of their boards, to give worse performnance than two mid-range cards in SLI. (This is especially true since they'll be charging a premium for their motherboard, since it'll have to support SLI!)

Edit: Sorry, I didn't realize that the $550 was for the vid card and motherboard, making it about equal to the cost of the motherboard and two 6600GTs. I still want that link. 🙂

Asus already offer a cheaper 6800GT with 128MB of RAM.

Are you trying to lie now, or did you not realize that I asked for a link to a benchmark comparing the 6600GT and 6800GT (and preferably Ultra) with no AA/AF?

Sorry about that dude, but theres no need now, Anandtech has one of the 3D1 for you to read, and without AA and AF its blisteringly good! But as it said its no better than getting 2 seperate 6600GTs.

True, but it's

a) AGP (this is a postive for some, but not WRT the X800XL),
b) only 128MB of much slower RAM,
c) $30 more, IIRC, and
d) still slower than the X800XL.

So nV has to try a little harder.

Yeah, for the AGP card. His link for the PCI-e one is the Gigabyte dual 6600GT card. And therein lies the confusion.

He thought the 256MB AGP 6600GT was the same thing as the 256MB Gigabyte dual 6600GT. It's not, performance wouldn't even be close between the two.

LOL, don't gather, read. The PCI-E Link in the first post is the Gigabyte 3D1 (dual 6600GT's on one card in SLI).

The AGP link shows a 6600GT (single) with a bridge chip.(thats why the hsf is on an angle.)

I am pretty sure the 6600GT has enough power to utilize 256 GDDR3 memory. It is only 128-bit though.
