Its all about the memory between these cards. The 6600GT should meet or beat anything the X800 can do in Quake 3 / Doom3 / UT2k4 based games. The X800 should clearly lead in any game or mod based on HL2. MMOs such as Star Wars Galaxies, City of Heroes and World of Warcraft will probably be on equal terms.

Umm if you don't need SM3.0 then the x800 hands down.

You know, if the OP doesn't need SM3, then I have to recommend the X800GTO2. It's a much MUCH better idea to save up to $220 for this thing. What it is is and X850XT underclocked a little with a different name and much cheaper. That's all. Just overclock it a little and you're set. Since it really is an X850XT, it should be "overclocked". Then it would beat a $300 6800GT.

the x800 xl is selling pretty cheap right now. It doesn't overclock well, but it'll beat the 6800GT in most cases.

x800 is around 150 ( IIRC) so defently that if you don't want to shell out 50+more bucks.

If you can afford to spend $220, nothing can beat the x800gto2 for that price. Not even close.

personally, i'd take the 6600gt for its Sm3 capabilities...but you'll have to look that up on your own to determine if you want it or not
