I would get the 6600 if it's actually $70 cheaper than the 6600GT ($135 and $204 are the lowest prices I can find today). I guess I could live with the slower memory after overclocking the GPU to 500MHz.

The thing is, I don't play games that much to pay $200 for a graphics card, I would rather save for new speakers, or a better monitor, or a DVD writer. But the 6600GT is so much faster than the vanilla version that paying only $50 more is definately worth it. Or maybe the X700 will do the trick...

 
In the far future when I feel that 939 is the path for me, I will probably get a x800XTPE, after a gigantic price drop.
 
Im a doom-3 fan, I would prefer Nvidia as of now. I have been extremely unlucky because i purchased a Gainward FX-5950 ultra golden sample about a year back, and with anti-aliasing and P.S 2.0 everything turned on becomes a slide show at very high resolutions. Of course, now Im using an fx-5200 (my redundant card) Im waiting to buy a new card.......

Yeah, I'm using a 5200 right now too...waiting for the stupid AGP versions of all the new cards to come out!!

No it doesn't...in the comparison the 6600 GT wiped the floor with the X700 XT. I don't think the X700 beat the 6600 in one single test...

It's only redeeming factor is that the software wasn't complete yet, so maybe we'll see better performance when it is, but at the moment I'd definately pick the 6600 GT over the X700 XT.

i think he's referring to the plain 6600, not GT, which performs quite a bit slower
 
Probably true Scorp, but still, I don't know if the vanilla X700 is going to beat the vanilla 6600 all that badly...if at all. Alls I knows is that the 6600 GT did deal out quite a whoopin to the X700 XT. I just figured the same might hold true for the little brothers. And honestly, I'd rather spend an additional $50 to up the 6600 to a GT. So much faster! (of course, I guess the same could be said about spending $150+ to go to a 6800 GT, but heck, I'm a poor college student!!)
