6600 PCI-E Brand ranking?

Just trying to figure out what to get. Are there particular brands to avoid? I'm not a great big fan of Chaintech recently, any others?

Don't get the msi. They have problems with overheating. Check the review here concerning 6600 cards

refurb cards are great depending on what card you are looking for. forinstance paying $360 for a 6800GT when you can get a new one with a bundle for $390 isnt that great of a deal. but if you just want to pinch pennies, or you dont care about a bundle, then refurb cards are fine. there is, of course, the increased risk of getting a DOA card.

Well you can assume that if they make the GT better than others, they probably make the vanilla better too.

Maybe... but if I wanted to assume, I'd just use my own judgement... 😛

Well I'm willing to bet 99% of the people in this forum haven't bought one of each brand, so that is going to be your best answer regardless.

I'm just trying to get some answers, if no one has any opinions that's fine. But I rather not extrapolate and assume unless no solution exists. General thoughts/impressions with the card (6600) you have are welcome to, but getting information about someone's 6800 Ultra and assuming the company makes a good 6600 or something like that is what i would like to avoid.

Thanks for you input though.

there are about 99999 other threads about this, try searching. if you dont want to listen to people that obviously know alot more then you, then dont even bother posting.
if a company makes a good card, then they make a good card. why would the quality be different between models?
evga, bfg, leadtek are good...pretty much anything besides xfx and pny (not all are bad, but alot have had issues...why even risk getting one?)

I just wanted an opinion on my specific question. If the question has been answered before, I'm sorry, I searched for this specific topic and couldn't find it. I hate fighting on forums, I'll let this be my last post on this thread.

I read every single post on this thread and was pleased by the responses so I don't see the problem you have with my posts... and even went through Anandtech's 6600GT o/cing comparison, but being the way that I am I felt that more information might be helpful for me to make an informed decision. Is it too much to ask for an answer to a specific question? Like I said, I can assume that company A has always made good products and thus product A from company A will be good as well, but I just wanted to find out specifically.

Why would the quality be different between models?
Ask any car owner why thier car is better/worse than other cars from the same manufacturer. It definitely happens, just because Toyota makes a good Camry doesn't mean that all Toyotas are good. There are some budget Toyotas out there for example. (Just an example)

Again, didn't mean to rub anyone the wrong way... like I said, I just wanted information, no need to bite my head off. 😉

Anyways, thanks for all posts, I think I'm going to go for Leadtek.

I've bought a Gigabyte 6600 PCI-E card from NewEgg.com for $113. Card is solid, overclocks real good, and in games (overclocked), it performs similar to the 6600GT. In fact I'm selling my 6600 GT AGP and going PCi-E, and I got a second one on the way. The other one was for my brother. The package is also good, I would say better than most 6600GT's I've seen out there. Card is great value, you'll like it. Plays Doom3 and HL2 like a champ. No need to spend more $$$ on more expensive cards.
Best of luck.
