6600 NON GT

Worth the buy? Or could I just buy a generation behind for less and get more power? I'm looking to spend about $150 or less.

Do you have an AGP or PCIe motherboard?

I have not seen a regular 6600 available in AGP yet.

you know you should really check out some reviews if you are asking this question. You will not get more power from a generation behind, you will never get that in Videocards. For amount you what to spend I say a used 9800 pro is your best bet.

You know, thats a bunch of crap. Which is faster? A 9200 or an 8500? Hmmm? True, a 9200 is a DX9 card, but in terms of FPS, the 8500 is going to eat the 9200 alive.

Thanks for the advice. Thats the decsion I've come to as well. I've got a 5900 Ultra 256MB at work I could just "borrow" until I have the cash to buy something more powerful than what I've got (a TNT2 M64)

6600 is pci-e only, and i dont think it will make it to agp

there are not many good "current generation" cards around $150, and I do think 9800pro is at least as good as a 6600 non-GT, since the non GT only has 2/3 the power of GT at best. 9800pro is better than 5900U too, though not by much.

If u can punk the 5900U from work, then may as well wait for the 6600GT or 6800 to drop in price

Oh btw, 9200 is DX8 card, not really next gen, just a cheap version of 9000 which is a cheap version of 8500, and yes its BAD

I dunno about you, but I'd rather have a ti4600 than an fx5200 anyday...even if the ti is a generation behind. 😀

9200 9100 9000 and 8500 are all the same generation, so that does not support the argument that you can buy a generation behind and get more power.

Now, if you had mentioned 5200's and 42/44/4600's, you might have an argument. 😀

The problem you run into is prices and age/warranty. Sometimes the older card is just not worth it.
