6600 gt pci-e bios

I have a XFX 6600 gt pci-e.
It's been a while since I got the card and it gives me funny problems time to time.
I'm thinking that a good 'ol bios update might fix the problem.

So folks... Where do I look?

Also, Can I unlock the pixel pipelines? If so, where do I look?

THE source for VGA-BIOS related matters: MVKTech
XFX may provide new BIOSes for download...?

And you cannot unlock pipelines on the 6600GT, 'cause there are none hidden... 😉
That's 6800NU stuff...

EDIT: Just saw MVKTech has several BIOS images for the XFX...
Other essentials are Nibitor for editing and nvFlash for updating...

hey Doc, u seem like a pretty experienced VGA OCer... do u think my Leadtek 6600GT would benefit from a better OC if i was able BIOS flash it...?

Or would i simply be taking a risk for no potential gain...?

Hmmm...as the overclockability depends on the silicone quality of GPU and RAM chips, there should be no impact on this through newer BIOSes. Especially the 6600GT is pretty limited in BIOS settings.
Other cards like the 6800 can be upped in voltage via the BIOS, what gives more OC potential 😀
The 6600GT however has to be pencil-tricked for higher voltage... 😉
If your card runs fine and Leadtec does not offer BIOSes to fix stuff, I would not take the risk. On the other hand I flashed my cards so many times (to implement new clock/fan settings) and never had issues. 🙂

ditto thanx Doc

EDIT: any more info on that pencil mod thing.... although my card prob too hot to contemplate it !!!

The article I linked above describes it quite thorough. However you should have the voltage meter and good cooling ready if attempting this to stay in control 😉
I had my first 6600GT @ 1.7v core (instead of the stock 1.4v). This resulted in clockspeeds of 630/1330, with the card running at close to 80C under load, however.
Unfortunately, Gainward changed the card layout completely and I don't have a clue, where to Vmod my second card. Therefore I also removed the mod on the first one and cranked down again. Not the worst option for the health of the card I guess... 😉
