6600 GT 128 or 6600 256?

I was very sad recently when my expensive Radeon 9800 Pro 128 just died. So my father said "I dont care how much money you have, you cant spend more than 200 on a GFX card!" So i get an email from tiger direct advertizing 2 cards. An XFX 6600 GT 128 and a XFX 6600 256. Which would be the better one and, will they have nearly the performance of my 9800 Pro 128?

Thanks

6600GT 128 will be a lot faster. If you're an extreme overclocker, the 6600 256 has a lot of potential. The 6600GT will be about 25% faster than your 9800 Pro 128. Though don't get either:

Check out the pny 6800 deal! $156!!@! that's a lot faster than 6600GT also.

P.S. welcome to the forums.

I assume you have an AGP because you said 9800 PRO. Link to that 6800NU AGP PNY:

I got something almost identical to this in PCI-E, and it beats my old 9500 PRO by 3 times. Don't worry, the AGP is even faster by default than the new PCI-E bus version, and you won't be bottlenecked. You can't beat this deal with a stick.

Damn it's out of stock now. Wait till it's in stock. It'll be worth it over the 6600GT, plus sometimes you can unlock it to 16 pipelines.

well, basickly if you want some more details just run a simple search here, 'cause issues like this have been discussed alot here.

But for a short answer, I wouldn't even be considering the 6600 as a bad joke...
The 6600GT will own it no matter what.

Yes, but if you're going to spend closer to $200, get a better brand than PNY. $156 is a good price for a PNY card, but I wouldn't spend $199 on it...

hl2 uses a GREAT engine. My hat is off to valve to making such an efficent engine that DX9 runs at full specs 50+fps for 3year old tech
DX8 runs at 50+fps for 4 year old tech
and DX7 runs at 45+fps for 5 year old tech
at 12x10 2x aa 8x af
and yet, they are the best looking gfx for any game using all 3 modes at the same time.
(but i hte STEAM so much!)

anyway, 7800GTX is much faster than the X850xtpe.

Yeah i have to agree i dont like steam one bit. But i still can believe im gonna be getting that kind of FPS! I mean really, my 9800 stuttered at 2x aa no af and wasnt even playable with 2x aa and af on...

ru kidding? 7800GTX hands down. blows the doors off anything else.

Also, buy the Chaintech SA6600G. 6600GT AGP 128mb. BFG just buys Chaintech's mobo and VGA cards and adds slightly better HSF and mildly pre-overclocks the VGA cards for you.

So buy the Chaintech for $154, as that's what the BFG is anyway. Then buy a Zalman VF700-Cu for $30 and a tube of AS5 for $5. Grand total- $189. Overclock the card yourself and with vastly superior cooling solution, it will eat the BFG card alive.
