My system:
-AMD Athlon XP 1700+
-ASUS A7V266 motherboard
-ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 8500DV
-512MB DDR SDRAM
-WinXP Pro

My 3DMark2001 benchmark:
-6567 3D marks

Why's it so low?

*EDIT*
I'm running the drivers that came with the card. The only updated drivers ATI shows are beta versions.

Don't know if the performance is the same as under Win2k, but my 1.3GHz Athlon with 512MB of RAM ran DiabloII better in Direct3D mode with my GeForce256-DDR and the DetonatorXP drivers than my brand new ATI Radeon 8500 with the November 14th driver release. So far most reviews of the product seem to focus on Win9X performance and gloss over the miserable performance in 2K and possibly XP. Anybody else notice this, or do people out there actually have 8500's running on par with the GeForce ti500's like the reviews made me expect?

On the flip-side, truform works and is in Serious Sam. The models with truform enabled look much smoother and realistic than the blocky character models I've come to expect from PC games.

<< Uninstall 3Dmark and problem solved.

or

Make sure you've installed 4-in-1 drivers and grab the latest drivers from www.ati.com.
>>

Are you referring to the 4-in-1 drivers on the ASUS CD?

Check all your drivers, make sure to install the APG TURBO drivers in the 4 in 1 instilation. Also, keep in mind that the 8500DV's clock is set lower than the 8500's. Lastly, WinXP could be shafting you, since it is a recent microsoft release (ie gamma test), and therefore is not well acclimated to some drivers.

Once again, are those drivers on the ASUS CD?

when you install the 4 in 1s it will ask you if you want turbo or normal mode. They should be on the asus cd, but are already outdated, you can get new ones off via's website, I think.

Mohamed that is not a low score on the 8500DV with the drivers that come with the card. I scored 6168 with the drivers that come with it. My system is as follows...
1.2@1.4 Athlon
Iwill KA266
640megDDR
8500DV
XPpro
ect....

Dont forget the card is clocked at 230/200 not 275/275 like the Retail 8500. I have seen a lot of guys overclocking their 8500DV's to 250/200. That will help you out some but you are in the norm for the drivers you are using. You could try the new bata drivers at www.rage3d.com and see how they work for you. The other 8500DV owners seem to love them, I dont need more speed yet I'm doing editing and playing Diablo2 LOD.

Sorry to keep bothering you all, but this is all quite new to me... What is VIA's website address and which drivers should I be looking for?

Mohamed if you look down the page there is a post about 4 in 1's with the link to VIA in it. Like I said I dont think its your VIA drivers. Here is my 3Dmark2001 score.

score

Now not only look at my score but compare yours to others with the 8500DV not the 8500!!! BIG difference between the cards.

I think it'd due mainly to the lower core/mem clock rates. Of course the 266a would give you much better scores. The 8500's need the latest and greatest CPU/DDR Chipset before you go 3DMark2001 best score "hunting". It does still seem like a low score. I would think you could touch 7000 marks.

Also make sure texture compression is turned on.

The original drivers that came with the card are horrible and shouldn?t be used at all. The 3286 are the drivers I recommend you install and use. They are betas but I think most ppl would agree that they are far better then the 3276 version.

Actually, according to ATI's website, the 3286s did come with the card.

huh, I didn't think ATi would include betas on an offical driver CD interesting. Still check to make sure that its the 3286's and not the 3276 as they make a world of differance.

Just out:)

"Official 8500 drivers for WinXp via Windows Update - 9:03 am EST - SirXcalibur
If you use windows update on your Windows XP machine today and you have a Radeon 8500 you will see a new driver availible. Its version 6.13.6014, so a little older than the leaks earlier this week but it is offical.

So check it out and take it for a test run and let us know your results in this thread.

I would expect these or similar ones to show up on Ati's page in the near future. We will see... "
