650i vs. current conroe mobos

What is the general consensus... Is it worth waiting a couple of weeks/months for the 650i northbridge as opposed to getting one of the now-available mobos? (Ds3, p5b, etc) Will there be a significant real world performance improvement??

I an not using SLI or overclocking.

No noticeable gain outside of the extra overclocking headroom. For what you need, a decent 965 board will be fine, and not noticably different performance wise.

DS3 is an awesome board and the latest BIOS makes it stable as hell.

P5B-E/Deluxe are good too, but the P5B-E has a 2.1v limitation on memory voltage but that may be good for you.

Yes indeed that is the board... The only problem with that board I guess is the lack of firewire support.

Hi I am building a setup for a friend. No need for SLI or powerhouse gaming, but there is a desire for overclocking and CPU power.

Specs/Needs:
E6600
2x1GB Corsair DDR2 800
Overclocking will be done on air and at best a good $30-$40 cooler will be used.
At least RAID 1 and possibly RAID 5 - reliable!
IDE CD ROM(at least 1)
Floppy Drive

STABILITY is most important followed by overclocking, and I mean long term for several years, so dust buildup in the heatsinks shouldn't mess the rig up. Obviously the system will be throttled a couple hundred Mhz from max overclock to accommodate this.

Look like I am deciding among boards with the P965, 975X, or650i/680i chipsets.

What reason should I go with a 975X or 600i series over the P965 ?

Lastly how good is the stock Intel cooler? Any reason to upgrade and if so which ones have best bang for the buck?

I don't think the P5B Deluxe has that limit on the memory voltage, but I'm not totally sure. Anyone know??

P5B-D/P5B-E 1.02 revision vdimm max = 2.45V
P5B vanilla/P5B-E original revision vdimm max = 2.1V
