I signed up for 650 Dialup about five months ago and have not been able to send email through one of their dialup networks. Here's the crazy thing: it's the exact same network that I previously dialed into with my old ISP, which allowed only their SMTP server, but every SMTP server we've tried through the 650 Dialup account fails.
I've spent over 40 hours on the phone with their toll-free 24/7 tech support and their "solution" is to give me another account to use for sending email. I use the exact same email settings with each dialup account, but the primary dialup account just doesn't work with the SMTP servers.
I won't let them switch me to a different server because none of their other servers support MPPC compression, which is better for gaming pings, and their other networks report errors in my dialup connection status. I'm on one that I've discovered its name to be Aleron (or something like that), which 650 claims was bought out by L3 Communications.
My easiest method for testing is a telnet to their SMTP server (mail.650dialup.com) or something else. When I connect to any of their other networks in my area, "telnet mail.650dialup.com 25" works perfectly. If I connect to their network that I chose (Aleron), I can't get to the SMTP server.
Reading another forum (lost the link), I saw the idea to connect to my office's VPN for sending email. I did that through my L3 connection, tested the servers, and it worked!
Has anyone else had similar problems with 650 Dialup or another ISP? They've been great otherwise (I can even hyperlink through them, but I don't think they know that
), but there's just this significant problem.
I saw links to stuff like Auth-SMTP, but that costs! I want something free!
Thanks for your help, guys! You're the best!
