1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Gaming & Music, and otherwise general pc usage. For games, I am usually playing CSS, BF 2142, or likewise; so I am not looking to like play Crysis or something. For Music I am mostly listening to rock/metal.

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$650 Shipped.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
USA.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
Definitely doesn't matter but for this case I'm leaning towards and all AMD based build. I am mostly avoiding Intel/Nvidia at the moment due to, I don't like the direction Nvidia is heading with their video cards, and Intel's LGA775 will be a soon to be a dead socket by end of year and it seems silly to upgrade to that.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
I plan on salvaging parts I have lying around still unused and what is left in my current pc.

Case: NZXT Zero
Power Supply: Silverstone ST60F
Heatsink: Tuniq Tower with a Scythe fan.
Optical Drives: Some Lite-On SATA DVD burner I have.
OS: Windows XP Professional SP3.
Fans: 2x Scythe (Exhaust), 1x Aerocool Xtreme Turbine (Intake)
Floppy: Mitsumi 7 in 1 Drive.
Memory: 4GB (4x 1GB) Crucial DDR2-800 Newegg Lanfest Sticks [I may try to trade these/sell these for 4GB (2x 2GB) of memory though]
Optional Sound Card: Audigy 2 ZS [I will be trying to onboard soung first]
Speakers: Logitech Z-4's
Keyboard: Logitech G-15
Mouse: Logitech G5
Monitor: Acer 22" AL2216W

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
Yes, I have.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
I prolly keep everything at stock for now, if I happen to need to overclock in the future I will.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
I plan on picking up all these parts near end of july [see if any price drops happen, and allows me to save it a few more dollars; if I happen to go over budget]

When all is said and done, baring I didn't forget anything. I only need 4 items and these are what I am currently looking at. I would like some opinions of them or perhaps I should just change it to something else.

1) Hard Drive.
Western Digital WD6400AAKS
2) Video Card.
VisionTek 4850
3) Processor.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+
4) Motherboard.
DFI LANPARTY DK 790FX-M2RS

Total After Shipping & Rush Order
Should be about $605.

If ya need my zip code to do your own looking into: it's 48073

So, what do you all think, should I go with what I have picked, is their something slightly better; should I just go with a 6000+ instead?

Discuss.

Seems like a good choice if you plan to run Crossfire.

An intel E8400 is a better CPU (price/performance and power/heat/noise) but you have to spend over $200 on a motherboard to get 2- x16 slots.

If you don't plan to run Crossfire then an intel P43 chipset motherboard for ~$100 and the E8400 is better than the AMD combo.

A single 4850 is very good for 1600x1050, but if you want solid performance from 1 card at 19200x1200 you need the 4870.

By the end of July you should enjoy the pleasure of the DFI Lanparty DK 790GX-M2RS

MSI?s K9A2GX looks sweet, too.

Life will be good with the sb750 ...

edit: And the x2 6000+ will be fine

***edit**
it seems there is also the 790FXB-M2RS as well, which is essentially the same just wihtout onboard graphics.
