When are the 65 watt versions of Phenoms coming out? How about dual core versions? I'm thinking of building a comp soon (this summer) and wondering if these will come out anytime soon.

yeah, sounded like cancelled. google shopping lists a couple of places that have phenom 9100 or 9150e (don't remember which) but they are far above the price OEMs pay (probably ~$100). and since they are only available to OEMs at the moment, it's a much better idea to buy one of the normal phenoms or an Intel as those will perform far better for less money than you would have to spend on one of those 65w phenoms. and if power is an issue, just underclock and undervolt a phenom 9600 or a q6600.

They are on track. The new dual cores ala "Kuma" are coming. AMD offically refuted the claims that it was canceled.

And I think around Q3 we will see the new 65W phenoms i.e 9350e, 9150e etc, plus the 140W 9950 as well.

AMD has zero credibility when it comes to refuting anything these days.

The rumor of Kuma cancellation started somewhere for some reason, most likely internal employees who got pulled off the design project and reassigned decided to "vent some steam" and spilled the rumor. (or one of those employees who got laid off despite AMD officially refuting that rumor...)

In any event I can't think of a single "rumor" regarding AMD since 2006 that has actually proven out untrue, whether AMD decides to officially refute it or not. Can you?

The rumor that R700 wad delayed to 2009 has certainly proven false. But on the CPU front, everything bad rumored that could have happened to AMD has happened.

I don't know if Kuma is really going to be released.... AMD says it will be, and I wouldn't think they were outright lying on this one (they can't really afford any more hit to their credibility). But I'm not sure if releasing Kuma at this point makes any sense. The die size is sure to be in the range of 150-160mm^2 and the performance is probably not going to be much better than Brisbane when you factor in clocks. AMD will be releasing (or perhaps already have, I haven't been keeping watch) Brisbane SKUs clocked at 2.9-3.0GHz or so. Kuma will likely not go beyond 2.6GHz if they want to keep a 65W TDP. Clocked at 2.6GHz, Kuma will do nothing to change AMD's position in the market. It will not be fast enough to compete with even the E7200, which will be $113 in Q3.

I can't see AMD releasing Kuma if it is going to sell for $100 or less. At that price, they might as well stick with Brisbane at <$100 and fight it out with tri-cores / quads at $100-235. Especially AMD will be releasing 45nm Phenoms soon, and one of the new cores is Propus. Propus is a quad w/o L3, and on 45nm it should not be much larger than dual-core Kuma on 65nm.

Anyway, the bottom line is I don't see where dual-cores fit in AMD's strategy or help AMD to be more competitive in any way. The K10 architecture is not fast enough per clock to allow AMD to compete with Intel using the same amount of cores, unless they have a significantly faster clock, which is not possible without significantly higher power consumption. The refresh of E2xxx -> E5xxx and E4xxx -> E7xxx will make this even more clear.
