Well we know now how they will bridge the long wait to Zen4 on AM5 Q4 2022.
Production start for V-cache is end this year so too early for Zen4 so this is certainly coming to AM4.
+15% Lisa said is "like an entire architectural generation"

I am so hyped for this CPU! I am anxious about not being able to buy one due to high demand and low supply. I am going to try building a 'budget' 5800X3D build, but I will not buy a single part unless I can snag this CPU first. I love big cache!

I'm interested in knowing how many people here are holding out on an upgrade due to waiting for the 5800X3D. Please raise your hands.

-I've bounced around the idea of an AMD build here for a while, and I would have gotten a 5800x or the 3d version, but honestly it's GPU prices that are holding me back.

What's the point of upgrading my whole core rig if I'm still going to be stuck with a 980Ti? Might be a couple years yet before GPU pricing becomes even sort of sane again, by then my "new" rig would start getting old and I would not have even seen the fruits of the upgrade yet.

It is an easy decision for me, even though I will be stuck on the 1080 ti for the foreseeable future. It is all due to the games we play. The majority of games I play are 100% CPU bound even at 4k60 or 1440p144. I will also be using the 5800X3D to host these games for coop, so I will be running all the AI on that system. My Ryzen 5000 friends already get double my framerate in these games, so I know I'm gonna see a huge performance uplift.

But for games that I am GPU limited in, I will see no change at all. I am definitely going to wait for a GPU supporting DisplayPort 2.0 in the meantime. Hopefully by the time that happens, 4k144 will be more mainstream!

Thank you for the reply!! SO I know that this will be better at gaming but what about video editing and compression vs say a 5950x??
Almost all rendering and compression workloads are more core/thread limited than they are cache/memory limited, either way its safe to say the 5950x will have a clear performance advantage in highly threaded workloads. Without having benchmarks of the 5800x3d yet, the best way to extrapolate is looking at memory performance scaling benchmarks. Any program that likes having faster/lower latency ram should really like v-cache.

Why wouldn't AMD just release some dang info on the 5800x3d so people like me who are interested in either purchasing this or a 5950x and need to know benchmarks..

They will, once you can actually buy the 5800X3D. But if you do tasks that can use more than 8 cores, the 5950X will be faster if not then the the 5800X3D will be fastest.

Interesting, Videocardz is now saying that the 5800X3D will be $449 and the 5700X($299) and 5600 ($199) are actually Vermeer. It's like a de-bin/price cut instead. Release date of the 5800X3D is April 20th.

The 5500 is Cezanne and there's also some new 4000 series Renoir models too.

Too little too late.
I really wasn't expecting that would take so long to launch this CPU. At this point is just a formally before AMD mass adopt this tech on a future CPU? Is really worth buying this CPU so late when Zen 4 will arrive not long after?

Have to think April 20th does mean that Zen 4 isn't coming for awhile. Even factoring in the DDR5 issue.

We don't have a definite launch time for Zen 4 yet, and with the time range AMD has given so far, it may easily be another four months after Zen 3D before Zen 4 drops.

It's not all that different from previous generations where an XT refresh would happen in the months leading up to the new Zen launch.

It's probably worth getting for someone on Zen 2 who doesn't want to do a completely new build.

To be honest, I'd be more interested in something like 5700x as the last AM4 upgrade for my wife's box. 3D is nice, but 5700x just might be the sweetest price/performance/power spot.

It does sound interesting. I'd imagine a 5700G minus IGP with perhaps a bit better base frequency.

If it's Vermeer, so much the better.

I don't think Zen 4 is coming until fall. So 6+ months as AMD's top gaming offering is short but they've done odd things like that before with the 3800XT.

I am considering replacing my old 1700X with a 5800X3D if the B450 motherboard it is in ever supports it.

Ehhh, price is spot on with where a realistic prediction would be but I do wish it were $50 lower.

Cool, I really thought everything except the 5800X3D were wild rumours. Depending on where the 5600 and 5700x land pricewise herearound I may acquire one of them to prolong my B550 / DDR4 platform (currently using an R5 3600) for another year or two.

IMO it is NOT there for those who would upgeade to Zen4, but those who will stay with AM4 for a while.
