Well we know now how they will bridge the long wait to Zen4 on AM5 Q4 2022.
Production start for V-cache is end this year so too early for Zen4 so this is certainly coming to AM4.
+15% Lisa said is "like an entire architectural generation"

Would this 20% also be applied to the 5800X3D?

Yes, but that is expected it is more expensive CPU product.

As Ian said, "9600$ it is preety cheep for 64/128 CPU with 768mb L3 Cache".

Five years ago, such server CPU product fell under the mission impossible.

Would it benefit AMD to have a celery version of their X3D release? Maybe a Ryzen 7 5600X3D or Ryzen 5 5600X3D, with half the V cache, would fit the naming scheme.

AMD needs a less complicated naming scheme in the future. The naming convention by AMD that led to Zen 3 Ryzen 7 5800X3D is just awkward at this point.

Uh, have you seen Intel’s naming scheme?

Videocardz seems to think the release will be either on the 14th or the 21st. Also says Zen 3 TR Pro and Milan-X will launch soon.

I'm interested in knowing how many people here are holding out on an upgrade due to waiting for the 5800X3D. Please raise your hands.

I almost jumped on a 12900K then news of the 5800X3D came out that it would be releasing in March. I was assuming it was late 2H. the 5800X is fast enough for what I do but I have low level tech addictions so I'll probably jump on one. I'm predicting I'll have buyers remorse when AM5 hits, haha

If you want 64GB RAM or more at a good price, the 5800X3D should be good for you for at least 3 years or so before you feel the need to upgrade, assuming the V-cache is useful in your workloads. Otherwise, better to wait for AM5.

5800X3D is AM4 swan song. I might upgrade (probably not) from my 5600X.
I'd still be a nice upgrade, free of any mobo/RAM cost but int the end, my 1060GTX is a lot more prone to replacement ASAP.

I have 2 5800X rigs, one is a daily, the other is strict gaming. The daily will be good for a long while and I'll probably just do NVMe drive updates and use the "smaller" 1TB NVMe drives in external enclosures. The only other thing the daily rig could use is a new PSU. I bought a nice Prime 1000w Tx that I'll use in it one day: it's been sitting for months now and thankfully it doesn't use capacitors on the 24p and GPU cables. Actually it doesn't use any in-line capacitors at all VS my SuperNova T2 that uses them on the GPU cables and 24p ATX. But yeah the 3D should be a nice upgrade until the pain of AM5 hits

I was but at this point, even if the performance is good for games I still have a hard time paying $350-400 for an 8core cpu these days, no matter who makes it. Longevity wise the 12 or 16 core is probably better investment especially if the used market acts like it did with the i7 chips for the past ten years.

If the 5800X3D can somehow do 2000+ ST in Geekbench 5 or has at least one useful workload where it beats everything in sight, I might go for that.

I doubt you will see 2000+ ST in Geekbench 5 just from extra cache.

And for me that one synthetic benchmark isn't all that useful i'm looking forward to seeing numbers across applications and games.

Thanks. I had never checked 5800X's score before. It's close to the best score I've seen from i5-12400 so far (1743) so if it performs well in general, I can see myself going for it. With PBO, I suppose it can go into the 1800s?

EDIT: Wait, max frequency of 5.02 Ghz means it's running with PBO?

If MSI release a Zen 3 BIOS for my B350m Mortar then I will buy a 5800X3D to replace my 2200G. If price is right I might get a B550 board anyway though.

yes PBO is on.
