Well I spoke with ATi this am and QDI about the video card (32MB Radeon DDR) and the motherboard (QDI Legend Advance 10E). Seems they have never heard of this before. We tried a few things and even flashed the mobo's bios but it still wouldn't work. So I went to return it and was thinking of getting a Nvidia based board and thought hey let's try the 64MB DDR Radeon and IT WORKED. Imagine my surprise. They never even charged me for the upgrade.
So here I sit with the new 64MB DDR Radeon installed. One thing I boobed on was when WinME booted it found the new Radeon card but I neglected to remove the ATi Rage 128 from the system and go to standard VGA/PCI display. I inserted the Radeon CD and selected easy install. It was copying files just fine and suddenly said something to the effect of Severe Error try installing from PCI/VGA display settings.
So I stopped and rebooted in safe mode and changed over to PCI/VGA mode and rebooted. Again the system found the Radeon and instead of trying Easy Install I pointed Millennium to my the CD and let it install the ATi drivers this way. This seemed fine the system all but finished loading and the screen just sat there black! Ack! back into the bios and disabled AGP 4X and the system booted just fine.
I guess if I might impose on you and hate to be a pest but there are 2 issues that I would like to resolve. First I'm certain that the GART from the ATi Installation CD has overwritten the Via GART. How can I reverse this so I can indeed hopefully enable AGP 4X? Second there is one more weird thing "Don't just love these weird things"! If I select shutdown the normal way, the system powers off perfectly. However when I go and push the power button the same old problem occurs "The CPU will not start!" I have to remove all traces of AC power from the motherboard by unplugging the cord and then the system will start perfectly!....do you think I can indeed get the VIA GART drivers installed and what's your call on the power up issue.
Thanks so much!
