64bit vista totally lost here

okay I have 32 bit home premium sitting on my desk.
I am wondering if I should just install it, or if I should order the 64bit disk.

So here is my question. Can I install 32bit run it for a while then say in like 6 months order the 64bit cd?

Or do I have to order the cd before I install anything?

Insufficient information.

What are you planning to do? Do you have any special hardware? Does your system fully support 64-bit?

More details yield better responses 😉

I would check driver availability for your hardware if you are going 64 bit,do bear in mind that if you go from 32 bit Vista to 64 bit Vista you'll have to do a clean install anyway. Also any old 16 bit software won't run in Vista x64 due to no 16 bit legacy support.

Vista x64 is working great for me,however I have all the drivers 🙂.

to your question about time. Yes, I believe you can order the disk whenever you want...if in 6 months you decide you want the x64 version, I'm pretty sure you can order it from MS.

As for the rest, it all depends..I'm running Vista x64 right now and most things are running just fine. The biggest problem I have run into is that all programs much be digitally signed if it uses a Kernel driver or something. So some programs I like to use(mainly Core Temp) don't work unless I go disable that in startup everytime I boot up.

Speedfan 4.32 works great with Vista x64,as to digitally signed drivers, read this link.

Xarick, is your Home Premium the retail version, or the OEM version? If it's retail, you can get a new DVD and use it instead of 32-bit later, but OEM doesn't have that option.

Also on this note, does the Retail Upgrade version also allow you to order the 64-bit version? Or is it the Retail copy that only allows you to upgrade to 64-bit goodness?

it is retail
Yes the option to order 64bit is in my retail upgrade package.
I definitely want to get 64bit in the future, but not sure I want it right now (was going to wait a bit)
I don't want to install 32bit only to find I can't use the 64bit in the future.
I realize I have to do a clean install, it even says so on the packaging.

I went ahead an ordered 64-bit. Easy process. Only cost $10 So I figured what the heck. I will decide later which to install and this way If I want to change to 64-bit later I will have it handy. Or I may just go 64bit now.
