No, but it's not any worse either so if you have 3gb+ of ram you should go with the 64bit so you can use all of your ram.

Great if you're multi-tasking type and have lots of RAM. Not a biggie if you play in a full-screen mode with nothing heavy running behind.

If you plan on going with 4GB+ ram, go with 64bit.

I just added 4GB to upgrade from 2GB to 6GB. I reformatted and installed 64bit Vista. The experience so far has been good. No strange quirks or differences between the two versions.

I've been doing it on my laptop for awhile and like that Vista can take what it wants and I still have plenty left to game with.

Rather than giving a diplomatic answer I'm going to say flat out; yes. Yes, it is. You want to know for gaming? You're going to need more RAM than 32-bit can handle. You may not reallly need it now, but if we're talking about a system that plans to have any longevity in terms of gaming; then yes, you will need that additional RAM so yes, 64-bit is indeed better.

Not sure about Vista, but WinXP 64 has problems with Older games. Other than that it works just fine for gaming. One thing you'll need to check is that there are Drivers for all your Gaming peripherals(sp).

XP x64 has awful driver support. Vista x64 not so much. I'd strongly recommend it.

The only game I recall not getting to work correctly is XWing Alliance, which generally runs unstable, and refuses to finish the 5th or 6th level at all, ever.

Everything else runs great

You can always continue to dual-boot XP for maximum compatibility.

However, I don't like Vista 64 because it has a stupid limitation that prevents you from using unsigned drivers. Vista 32 doesn't have this issue.

All my games run fantastic in Vista x64 SP1.

Same. No issues whatsoever.

I concur.

4th'd.

5th

6nd...other than very seldom/sporadic driver crashes, which is most likely nVidia's fault and not the games...that should decrease/go away with time though, drivers keep getting better and better for Vista x64

Most of the games that flat out just won't run on Vista 64 usually had problems even running on XP, so no big surprise there. For the really old Win95/DOS-era stuff, you can try DOSBox or virtualization.

I would add that there seemed to be a pretty big jump stability wise between Vista64 and Vista64 SP1. It wasn't unplayable without SP1, but I did notice several significant quirks resolved. So all I'd suggest is someone who is looking at getting Vista64 make sure they have a route to get all the upgrades as soon as possible. They may sound obvious, but SP1 has been out for a long time and Microsoft only deployed it to my machine last month. They have some code setup where if it detects any drivers on your system that might have problems with SP1 it won't even deploy to you. So for the longest time SP1 was out and I couldn't even get it.
