Hi,
this is my first post in the forum and i want to ask this. Should i get a 64 or 128 mb geforce 4 ti 4200? i ve been looking all over the web for reviews and comparisons but i still can decide. I am thinking of Abit's Suliro 128 mb but i am not quite sure of its overclocking abilities and stablility. The other card i am thinking about is the Leadtek A250LE 64MB so could you please tell me which one to get?

Thanks

The good old question :)

But first: Welcome to the forums.

The answer: 128MB is the way to go...perhaps you sacrifice some RAM overclocking capabilities, but for future games with more than 64MB textures in regular use (e.g. Doom3, not sure about UT2003), you are on the safe (performance) side.

There are some threads that intensively discussed this point, so you should find much info via the search function.

Just a small addition to Doctorweir's points:

If you are a frequent upgrader and want to buy a Geforce5 or Radeon9700 early next year anyway, a 64mbyte card can make sense, because it is cheaper than a 128mbyte card and the memory performs slightly better (3.6ns instead of 4ns).

However, this makes only sense if you want to do a quick upgrade now and plan to upgrade to the next generation anyway in the next 6 months. There are already games available (e.g. Jedi Outcast) using very large textures, where the 128mbyte card performs better, than the 64mbyte card, even with the slower RAM. And there are more games to come with large textures. John Carmack from ID has already announced that Doom III will be using textures of 80mbytes+.

Bottom line: go with a 64mbyte card, if you want to upgrade again within 6 months, in all other cases go for the 128mbyte.

In Europe the price differenc between a Ti4400 and a Ti4600 has gone down to 40 Euros. You can get a Ti4600 for 289Euros and I believe in the US it is even cheaper. In some cases the 4600 from MSI or Albatron are cheaper, than other company's 4400s. A Ti4600 means that 310/700+ is more or less guaranteed. However that is still 100 Euros more, than you have to pay for a standard 128Mbyte Ti4200.
