64 Bit WinXP & Gaming?

Just curious if any one knows if Windows XP Pro being 64 bit, would increase the games in performance. or does the game itself have to be coded for 64 bit cpu technology?

And vice versa, if your using WinXP 32, but the game is coded for a 64 bit processor, would the game take full advantage of that technology even tho your OS itself is actually only 32 bit?

thanks for the info =]

on winxp 64-bit:

If games were coded for 64-bit it will run faster

if not the game will probally run slightly slower 1-5%, i know i seen somewhere that some game even tough it was 32-bit ran faster.

This is because on a 64-bit OS you will have to run translation type of mode (automatic).

on winxp 32-bit:

If the game is only coded for 64-bit then it will not run at all. If the game was only coded for 32-bit it will only use the 32-bit tech. If they game has 64-bit aware (Far-Cry does i think) again you will need an 64-bit OS to use the 64-bit tech.

there's also an issue with driver support. i know i have sound issues with Battlefield 2, and my razer diamondhead doesn't work too well.

I used XP 64 bit for a few months, and I really never noticed any difference in regular 32-bit games. Even with farcry there wasn't any noticible difference. So i decided to stay with 32-bit XP until i can at least partially utilize the 64-bit power.
