Does anyone have any idea on how to force a lower pixel shader version on doom 3 to attempt to get it to run better? Or maybe some other ideas besides lowering all driver settings, video options, running at 640 res and ocing from 225/400 -> 427/626?

I actually got this thing running an avg of 30fps at the settings i have it at now, but im hoping to get rid of the sub 20 frames that pop up under extreme cases. The limited memory bus seems to be giving me heavily varied framerate differences. 20-80 frames seems to be the range.

Also, I'm using the 66.93 nv drivers. Is there any OVERALL better drivers that anyone knows of?

Just use the lowest settings possible in game. DIII doesn't use DX, it is OpenGL based with some DX9 features which can be enabled or disabled by raising or lowering the settings. Use the 61.77's if all you are playing is DIII. Otherwise head over to the Video Cards thread and get the 67.03's or spring for the 70.90's or the 66.97's.

Ah yes, I guess i worded that wrong. I should have said "how do I disable the steam dx9 effect". I believe its always on dispite the settings, but im not positive. Do u really think the drivers u mentioned will improve speed overall for all games for the FX series? I'd assume it wont make much of a difference. I was more thinking something like the omega drivers in wondering if they would improve anything much by having more options for me to disable.

Yes i was thinking that. Also lighting was on my mind. This definately will help with doom 3. Anyone else have any advice for any other games? (halo, ut2k4 come to mind) Also any general improvments to all gamingsuch as a reccomended general driver for the fx series?

Also, within the guide it mentions the redering paths "arb" and "arb2". What are these rendering paths?
