64 bit in our lifes poll

I really need a poll to summerise my Extended Essay ( IB diploma, google if you wish. I am comparing the architecture of 32 bit and 64 bit processors. If any of you could answer the followed questions.

I'm confused at exactly what you look to accomplish with this poll. I mean how exactly will this poll?s results help you to compare the architecture of 32 bit and 64 bit processors?

Is your intention a consensus fact find?

I'll point out that I have no way of noticing if a 64bit OS/Chip has helped because I went from a P4 2.0ghz to a AM2 2.0Ghz with all the associated massive upgrades.

1) x2 3800--yes 64 bit
2) not now, but was using WinXP 64
3) the difference isn't really noticeable, but WinXP 64 is a nice OS overall very stable( never crashed in the 9-10 months I used it) .

I switched back mainly so that I can play older games that don't work in 64bit. I have considered Dual booting, but need a new HD before doing that.

All new procs rolling out are 64-bit.

X64 is good, but I didn't find many uses for it. It wasn't compatible with this, didn't have driver support for that, etc etc

It's all about gaming performance for me, and gaming compatability. Some of my games are going on 5 years old or more and I still play them. WIll they work on Vista? Hard to say at this point. Remember when xp came out alot of games didn't run.

I've stayed with my old 32bit Althlon 3200+ XP for quite a while, but will definitely be upgrading around this Christmas.

First of all I want to , or rather have to due to the requirements, connect it with interactions with society.
Well, at the moment I am describing the principles of the x86-64 architecture. I you analyze it (if you check out the table showing the differance in registers between A-XP and A-64) it turns out that an Athlon 64 working in the 32 bit environment is nothing more but a 32 bit processor. Therefore its superiority lies somwhere else.

what makes Athlon 64 perform better than Athlon XP in DirecX 8 & 9 applications? It it because A64 calculates natively 64bit floating point format ?

Most of the K8s performance improvements come from the integrated memory controller. The rest of it come from various internal architectural tweaks. As far as floating point units go, I'm pretty sure that most processors have been able to handle at least 64-bit floats for quite a while.

Your third question is a little weak as it's phrased as a subjective opinion when it's something that is probably objectively testable if you are putting an actual number on the noticeable performance.

i still use my trusty AMD Athlon XP-M 2400+ so i can't answer the rest of your questions. although if i had a 64bit CPU, i wouldn't use a 64bit OS until driver support is much better.

I voted. I have a 64 bit procesor (AMD 64) and XP SP2, but there is no way I'm going to Vista 64 until at least service pack 1, or, two years from now which is when I will do my next build.

I've got a 64bit CPU, but use 32bit XP. I have no plans to go to a 64bit OS anytime soon, especially since XP x64 is lacking, and I don't want to go to Vista at all.
