64-bit & dual core notebook CPU?

I'm looking to buy a new laptop/notebook with @ least

A CPU of 1.5Ghz or more, 64-bit, dual core
1GB RAM
40 GB HD

Other than that I just want the fastest wireless network card I can find. All I want to do with this laptop is regular e-mail, speadsheet, linux, and a lot of internet (probably all at the same time, hence the need for dual core and 1GB ram). NO GAMES, I won't be using this PC for games, am I wrong to assume onboard graphics will suffice (intel media accelerator 900 for example)?

Are the specs I'm looking at compatible with my needs? And can anyone suggest a CPU and a wireless card for me?

thanks,

AMD Turion 64 is a mobile 64Bit processor. If you want one Try looking at Toshiba Laptops and if you have the extra cash then spring for a Falcon Northwest or Voodoo laptop.

Falcon Norhtwest with an AMD 64 FX-60 Dual Core

Falcon Northwest with Turion 64 (Slower than Athlon but better battery life)

Voodoo offers Two Lines of Notbooks with Turion64 and One with an Athlon 64

Toshiba probably makes some of the most innovative notebooks/laptops in existance but as far as I know they are all using Intel Core or Centrino chips and they are not at this moment 64 bit capable. 64 bit from Intel wont be avlable for a few more months.

The 1st one seems to fit my description perfectly but I can't find it anywhere, I only find regular Turion 64s

Are the new conroe/conroe XE laptop CPUs dual core & 64 bit:

http://www.intel.com/products/processor/core2/index.htm

Conroe and Conroe XE are desktop chips. Merom is the laptop part. Merom is 64-bit, and will be available in a dual-core setup.

At present, the AMD Turion 64 X2 is the only dual-core 64-bit laptop chip on the market. Availability for them is still not great.

I'm not sure why you are requiring 64-bit support.

If you check AMD's specification site, listed are several ultra low-wattage energy efficant desktop processors complete with retail box numbers that cannot be found anywhere in the marketplace. This means you may have to wait a while before you will start seeing Turion X2 in mass numbers.

Yea I was actually wondering the same myself, lol

I remember two year ago when I thought 64 bit would catch on so fast and I'd be the only one left in the dust, but i guess the sortware (namely vista) just hasn't been there

When do you think that 32-bit will become obsolete? My guess is that when they do, the 64 bits of now will be missing a lot of the full 64-but potential

Not very soon. 32-bit is already more than enough for today's applications, 64-bit is pushing it a bit. Of course, for home users, at least. For servers, the more the better.

whoa whoa, what's with everyone suddenly going voodoo and falconNW 0.o I don't have a money tree, so i'm going to suggest some thing a bit more down to earth.

Asus and Acer both offer laptops with decent perfomance, dual core, and 64 bit. I could suggest a specific model if you told me what size of a laptop you'd like.

(Don't tell me i've just managed to miss someone else's sarcasm after that? :()

My Opty 144 @ 2.8GHz can barely open 1 FireFox window, Three IE is just plain insane, even for CRAY.
