Just wondering if anyone's heard of any compatibility issues with the 64-bit version of Windows XP? I remember reading that you ARE able to play 32-bit games on 64-bit Windows.

However, if I try to setup a LAN network with one computer running 32-bit Windows, and the other one running 64-bit Windows, will there be any issues while trying to play games?

And what if one of the games has "patches" to optimize it for a 64-bit processor -- will this version be able to play over the network with a non-patched version?

I need all three questions answered.

If the game has issues connecting to clients of a different architecture it's an extremely poorly written game. TCP/IP was designed to be architecture agnostic, it's the reason why I can use a 32-bit mail client to get mail from the IMAP server on my 64-bit Ultra2 and why you can get to Sun's website which is undoubtly running on 64-bit Solaris.

As for running 32-bit games on 64-bit XP, that would mostly depend on the drivers for your hardware and how well the 32-bit userland works. I personally would wait, because you're just going to end up being a beta tester for someone eventually.
