64-939 vs xp-m

hi there

I plan on buying a new bow. I spent a lot of time reading and comparing, and got most of the parts I want, but one thing still remains.

budget ca. 2000$

sure is:
gefo6800gt
1 gig corsair
terratec soundcard
stacker

but I am unsure which cpu to get: AMD 64 3500+ w/air or athlon xp-mobile w/watercooling

the xp-m would be cheaper (even w/water)

maybe important to mention: I use Linux for everything except gaming, so 64 bits would not be totally "wasted" (well, you don't really need 64 bits for surfing and office stuff 😀 )

I really hope you can help me and point me in the right direction.

Welcome to the forums ! It's really a nobrainer, Athlon64. The real question is socket 754 or socket 939. If the socket 754 fits your budget, go that way, otherwise if you have the cash, the 939 is a little faster, and has a better upgrade path.

pretty much none of the cpu benchmark comparisons you will find include any running at 64bits.

any ath64 still beats the crap out of any xp.

if you don't need it for a month or 2, and don't want to drop the cash for the 939, wait until they release the 300 and/or 3200 on 939
