$625 for 4 college textbooks

Last semester, I bought books online and saved half of what the bookstore was charging.
This semester, I bought them from the book store and ended up paying an arm and a leg.

after my freshman year in college, i started not buying text books for classes because I realized just how much I didn't need them.

after my freshman year, I probably bought 1 - 2 textbooks per semester. some semesters i didn't buy any books.

I bought a $80 book for $2 dollars online
and a $100 book for $10 😉

Online is the way to go.

Welcome to one of the biggest scams in this country. I really enjoy it when a professor requires you to use his textbook. Gee, that isnt a conflict of interest is it? Better yet is when said professor releases new versions every semester so his book cant be used again.

Complete and utter scam.

Damn. I remember books being $70-80/ea full price when I was in college. What a scam!

When I was in college new books were $25-55🙁 Damn I'm old

And there was no online, the internet was still a gleem in Al Gores eye🙂

i bout an $80 math book ($120 in bookstore) online and it is 5 weeks into the semester and i don't have it. ebay/half.com is not worth the few bucks you save over amazon

The fun part is selling them back and only getting $44, and being told that one can't be sold because they are using a new edition.

I easily spent $250-300 a semester last year (my freshman year). I did a semester abroad in New Zealand last semester, and not only do the profs say up front that buying the books are optional, but instead of asking you to buy six $40 books for one class to read an average of two chapters out of said book, they have this system whereby the school copies all those chapters, binds them together and sells a "course reader" for an average of $20 USD.

This semester, though, I'm going to try a new tactic--see how good the lectures are, then decide whether or not to buy the book. So far, I've spent less than $180. 🙂

I did the same thing, but I had some professors who required it, as in they'd assign work from it, or would require you to have it in class or they'd boot you out. Sucked big time because that was always the book that was like $150 too.

Just more proof that college is a ripoff.
