I'm giving my system its first major upgrade in 4 years, actually I guess it's a new system. I'm upgrading the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and video card.

I'm trying to keep this as cheap as possible while allowing for a good upgrade path. I've decided on PCI-Express and the Nvidia 6200-TurboCache are the cheapest in that format. I just read this article on the cards and also this article about system RAM with TC and I have some concerns.

The benchmarks show that the 32MB 6200TC outperformed the 64MB card (?). I had been considering the newer eVGA 128-TC-2N23-SX with 128MB of onboard RAM. Would I be wasting my money on a 128MB card? Would the extra $12 be better spent on system RAM with a better latency?

It seems odd to me that I might be upgrading from a 32MB card bought in 2001 to a 32MB card (or even 64MB).

For background, I haven't played a lot of PC games in the last 2 years (I haven't played any since my system died 4 months ago) but I miss playing Battlefield 1942 and I might want to get Battlefield 2. I used to tinker with my computer as a hobby, and overclock, but my job's too time consuming to mess with that stuff anymore. I just need a computer that works.
