How many ports do you need? If you look on price grabber, you can get an 8 port 10/100 switch for the same price as that hub.

A hub is not wise for a LAN party -- you get 24 people actively playing a network-intensive game, and the activity will slow down to a crawl, no matter what brand of hub you get.

i figured hubs wouldn't be any good but 8, 16, and 24 port switches cost too much.

If you're planning on hosting LAN parties regularly (once a month or so, or more often, even?), the switch will pay for itself if you charge an admission fee.

With a hub, people may come, see how sluggish the network (and therefore their games) is, and won't want to come again.

A switch is a gift that keeps on giving. :)

I'd get a few 8 port switches or something. You'll be going from 10 Mbps to 100 Mbps, and also loosing all the collisions.
