I was searching eBay for various PC games and came across this link here. It sounds much too good to be true. I'm thinking that it's some kind cheap remake of the games. Does anyone out there know of any program w/ all these games? The guy says that he'll email you the games so you can play them instantly and then he'll send the disk as a follow up. What's the point!? Post your ideas. Personally I think it's crap.

It's just a Nintendo emulator and the ROM images of the games. Illegal to sell.

Imported is right, it IS just the roms and emulators needed to play them. You can get all that stuff for free off the 'net with very little searching...plus it is completly ILLEGAL for him to sell that. You should report him to Ebay.

An emulator is software which enables you (in this case) to play console games on your PC. The emulators themselves are not illegal (but him selling them probably is, since most of them are freeware), but the games you would play on them are. Report the guy to ebay.

you realize a NES rom is usually.. very small. depending on the game they're usually 128, 256, or 512(big game) KB.

don't quote me on it.. it's been a while. most are <500kB though.

Ok, I will report the guy to eBay if you guys haven't done it already. Anyway, how do I go about getting these games for free? Any links?

like someone said. roms are illegal. this thread will get locked soon.

I didn't think they were illegal, just illegal to sell them.

Oh no, it is also illegal to possess them, unless you own the original game. Then it is perfectly legal.

However, selling them takes it to another level of illegalness (if that is even a word).

CHECK THIS OUT!!! I have just addded a new saving feature. Now any game can be saved at any instant. Now you can close the program, even shutdown your PC and still pick right back up where you left off. Don't pass this offer by!!!

LOL! Is this guy a scammer or what? Ahahaha! *for those who don't know, the ability to save the game is a standard feature on just about all emulators*

A much higher level at that. Mame, for example, thrived for years giving away ROMs for arcade machines that were out of production(and probably out of stock) for years. While they recently suffered a blow from a semi-related incident(they were giving away something "too new" per say), the general concensus is still that with arcade machine makers, they don't particually care for most but the absolute newest machines; and for console makers, there doesn't seem to be much of an issue with 16bit and less systems. That doesn't change the illegality, but it's more or less where things stand on when someone actually starts to care.

Legality of ROMS tends to follow legality of MP3's in my mind........on some levels

It's illegal to have the ROM's for more than 24 hrs, unless you own the original game.
That, I am almost positive, is completley untrue.

That doesn't change the illegality, but it's more or less where things stand on when someone actually starts to care.
Yeah, that basically seems to be it; except maybe for Nintendo, which is totally against emulation period (claiming it to be completley illegal).
