A couple of Swedish online vendors have the XFX 7800GTX card in stock now.

The price? $860 with shipping.

Oh yeah, and the 45% income tax? Car tax? Estate tax? Dog tax? Mandatory TV license tax? 25% sales tax? No real competition? 9 million people in a country larger to the area than Germany?

Well, it figures.

Now, can someone of you lucky Americans ask Burt Rutan to ship a card from Newegg to my door with his rocket?

Cuz you bet that'd be cheaper than buying it here.

yeah, I'm sure the price of shipping from the united states plus customs dues (do you guys have those?) should still be cheaper than buying it there. get qurazy quisp, or even I'll ship it to you if you cover it :)

It's just that it's like this EVERY TIME new hardware comes out. And they don't lower the prices like they should either.

It's frustrating to be left out of the flourishing market of the US, where you have multiple good vendors with good prices, bonuses, discounts, competition and what have you.

Someday I'd like to move there. :D

If you can afford to pay 860$ on a video card for your computer you can't be hurting too bad. :p

NCIX.com has the eVGA one for $825 Cdn. & the BFG one for $848

Effing disgusting, even more so since if they were just using the exchange rate they'd be $750 Cdn.

We get royally raped for prices here :frown:

yeah that totally sucks. It's not even like it takes longer for these cards to get to Canada than to the U.S. Depending on where you are, you could always hop the border ;). I had been in San Diego before moving to Philly and you could get whatever you needed in Mexico for cheaper :p

Yeah, we do get raped for prices here.

It's the same thing with the dollar store (or 99 cent store). One dollar is about 7.8 crowns and what do they charge? 10 crowns right off.

Now that may not matter much in a 99 cent store or equivalent, but when it comes to computer hardware, we're talking $100's very quickly.

ya, but what's your average salary?

In the USA it is about $25,000 for a 40+hour 5day work week.

How much do you spend on a college education? Medical bills? Don't forget that we Americans have to foot a lot more in those areas to make up for the lower taxes.

Yup 80G's just for tuition and another 30G's for Room and board for 4 years of college for where I'm going.... They should be paying ME to go there and not the other way around... $860 is dirt cheep compared to that.

$25k is an average salary WHERE?! You cant' live on less than around $45k/year here in the suburbs near DC. $25k is okay perhaps if you live in a hole in the ground and never went to college. No one with a college degree should be starting out at anything under $36k. Otherwise your degree was a waste of money and it's a crime you're being underpaid for your education.

Anyway back on topic:

$600 will get you this sweet OC'd BFG model 7800GTX apparently. That's pretty hot! :)

That's what the 6800Ultra costs here now. :D

Hmm, I can't seem to find out whether or not they ship to Europe, but it just may be possible. Thanks for the link, I'll keep this in mind. :)

And as for work, I don't work yet, I am studying. I might need to get a job on the side of that, though.

You're out of touch with reality on what wages are in non-densely populated areas of the country. DC is going to be far from the norm in the case of wages, if only because it is a center of government. And you are also out of touch with reality when it comes to the wages of many people with undergrad degrees. A prime example is teachers at the elementary school level.

A college degree in the US doesn't carry the same level of prestige and benefits that it used too (that doesn't mean it's useless though).

Is "college degree" the name that is given to all degrees higher than high school?

So, a Bachelor's 3 year Computer Engineer degree is as much a "college degree" as a 4.5 year Master's of Science degree gained at a university?

Due to the extreme progressive income taxes in Sweden, higher education doesn't pay off as much.

Not if the ware is not new, i.e. if it is used. At least I think not.
So, if someone was to discard (or keep) the original package of a video card and sell it to me as a used one, it should work.

Every pennie saved from taxation is a good thing, since taxation in any form is Communism. Saving your own money from the Gestapolice (they don't threaten you if you don't pay, without a reason), even just a bit, is only reclaiming a small part of your birthright to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Would someone be willing to go through the procedure mentioned above, whether or not it is for the 7800GTX or some other card?

Say hello to socialism.

It has its trade offs like anything, unfortunately thats one of the many prices you pay.
Thats why I vote conservative (Republican/Libertarian in the USA).

It's going to take me 5 years to get my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering...... so I would say that a degree in the US is quite good.
