600 Duron@1000 or T-Bird 1000? Is the performance the same?

I was very close to buying a Duron 600 for my kt7 mobo b/c od its overclocking ability; however, now that AMD has slashed prices on the 1 gig below $300, I am considering buying a T-bird 1 gig. Is the performance the same..(Apples to Apples) or is the Duron @ 1 gig still slower than the T-Bird 1 gig? If it is slower, which T-Bird would the overclocked Duron be comperable too??(&700, 750, 800?) 90% of my computer usse is in 3d gaming.

I believe the tbirds are always better at the same clocked speed because of the extra cache advantage over the Duron. However when compared to price/performance, Duron kicks ass on everything in the market right now.

Thanks for the input. i have one other question. What about a t-bird 850 o/c to 1000 vs a 1 gig t-bird? Would that be basically the same or would the 1000 still perform better than an 850 o/c to 1000?

No , performance would be exactly the same.
1000Mhz = 1000Mhz.
However if you can manage to get the 850 to 1000 using a FSB 117 it would be faster. :)

I still think the Duron is a good idea. They are sooo cheap and lots of fun. Do you REALLY need 1 gig ?? Crank up the Duron, say it gets 850-900 play with it. The way AMD is dropping prices, if the Duron keeps you entertained for 3-4months, the TBIRD will drop more and you can still sell the Duron for $50 +/-.

1ghz does not = 1ghz in this comparison. The Tbird is faster, but as has been stated, the Duron is still the better value.

He wanted to know if a 850 TBird oc'd to 1000MHZ was the same as a regular TBird at 1000MHz WHICH IT IS....
