600 Dollars to build a client's computer, what should I get?

they want me to have at least 100 profit. I just need the tower, its for my friends mom. I mean I have a 400Mhz sitting right here that would be perfect, but dunno if that would suffice. Most likely she will just be surfing the net and reading email, word processing, etc.

Build her an Athlon XP 1700+ on a good mobo with integrated sound chip and a decent graphics card, increase the size of her HDD and XP home edition. She will then be quite happy. Its' doable and we won't think you are some dweeb ripping of your mothers friend.

Let's say a entry level tech support person makes $15/hr (just an example here). You make a $100 profit.

100/15=6.66 Or 6 hours 40 minutes.

Keep this in mind as you're building this computer because you will be her lifetime tech support.

I'm sure you could build a decent rig for under $600 with all parts from NewEgg.com but as others have said you're going to be their tech support for life. Ugh.

Or your client can get a Dell Dimension 4400 for a little more with 24/7 tech support.

They would probably take it and notice later they don't sell any of that stuff 🙂
