I have a DVD-RW Drive here from my old computer.

This computer is for my parents to keep for many years. The mobo has a built in 4200 which should be good enough for them to play HD content. They are going to also use this for a media PC as well hence the remote.

Comments? I think its pretty solid build and will last them for many many years.

An excellent build. One thing I would like to change is the HDD. You can get a 500GB samsung f3 for $15 less or a 1TB for $10 more. These drives are even cheaper at ewiz and you get a 15% discount with grad15 promo code on top of that.

There drives perform on par with WD's and are extremely silent.

^ Sweet, Ill swap them out, I checked it out and Similar performance, Quieter and runs a bit cooler.

How is samsung's HD reliability doing lately? I have one in a rig from 05 running 24/7 and its still running great.

They were good to me. One in my laptop going good for 2+ years. I build a desktop recently with an f3 for myself no problems until now.

Yes 1tb drives are in that price range right now, but unless this is a htpc for your parents, 1tb and even 500gb are a little overkill.

Also, if you have a Fry's nearby, a CPU/mobo combo can save you a few bucks here.

No frys in FL 🙁

OP updated, good thing I read up again on the remote it seems the 127 remotes IR dongle has a hanging issue or the remote has some sort of hanging issue and people need to unplug it. This wont work well for my parents lol. I found the 126 previous model on a combo deal that does not have this problem 🙂

20 bucks saved so far from original build.
