Hey all
I'm building a new rig for a friend.
It's a computer he's not going to upgrade for probably 4, maybe 5 years. I know that's kind of a pain to try and future proof that far.. But realistically he's only going to use this computer for MMOs such as WoW, GW2, MAYBE Star Citizen
Trying to stay within $525-600
I'm wondering if a single gpu, like an Nvidia 770+
or perhaps dual 760s would be ideal. He prefers to stick with Nvidia
as it's just the brand he's known for years.
I'm just not sure how useful SLI is for MMOs.
It will be used in an i7 4770k, 16gb ram setup with a Corsair 850watt psu

He's upgrading from an X6 1055, Nvidia 460 system. He's looking for all around performance increase in WoW&Guildwars 2. And for whatever it's worth, going from Win7 to Win 8.1

If I am not mistaken, MMO's are more CPU intensive so a single 770 might work better than two 760's. Everything else looks good.

Yea that's what I was thinking, cpu heavy.
Dual 760s can be purchased for about $500-520, just seems like a great deal.
But on the other hand, he's all paranoid about micro-stutter and such. So yea maybe single 770

Also wait till the R9 AMD and GTX 780ti come out. Expect some price cuts to accomodate the new gpus.

On a side note. How do you plan to stay under $600 with all that hardware? 4770k + 770 + 850W PSU + 16Gb ram?

NVM guessing you just mean the GPU

I'll be honest with that kind of budget why not just buy the GTX 780? Will be future proof longer than your other choices?

Microstutter is non-existant.

I got two 760s and they are indeed faster than a single 780 and a Titan. They are even faster than the 290X according to the one leaked review (if accurate). Also, my 760s overclock to 1293/7600 and can run 7000mhz on memory 24/7 stable...so effectively I am just about on par with two 770s in SLI at stock speeds.

You don't need an 850 watt psu, btw. My 760 Seasonic Plat is more than enough. With my cpu overclocked to 4.4ghz, memory to 2133mhz, and my highest gpu overclock of 1293/7600 my draw from the wall barely broke 500 watts. At the 1267/7000 I run all the time my max draw is 450-ish.

Alright so for one 780. Will a Corsair 700-850watt be enough for that card? Looking at around 60-70 amps on the 12v?

If I can shave a few bucks off the price of the 850watt, could put that toward a single 770 or 780.

I'm a big fan of Seasonic, but as far as I know, Seasonic I think actually makes this PSU for Corsair.

Great buy:

...unless you are looking for something modular.

Then go with:

to play mmos a 770 seems overkill. But then, it depends on the size of the screen and the resolution he plays at.
